Hey guys,
I have heard that the hot rod deluxe can get a killer hard rock/metal sound, kinda brown soundish steve steven-ish. Does anyone have one and/or have sound clips?
-
Yeah, I have one, it cant do it stock for sure. If you boost the drive channel a bit with a pedal its ok for rock but its definately more of a clean/blues amp.
I have a video posted in the Time Out forum with a video of the boosted drive channel, but imho if you want hard rock/metal you're better off getting something else. I'm planning on getting a Laney for those styles, and using my HRDx for cleans :)

With one of these, I'm sure it will....

Typically Fenders run pedals really well, although I think the Hot Rods don't quite as well as the Twin/Dual Reverbs and the '59 Bassman.... and of course you can get it modded too...

I was gonna go down the pedal route but people here just convinced me to get an amp which is made for the sounds I'm after, I've wasted loads of money on pedals and have never been fully satisfied with the tone.

Look for my clips in the Players section.

seconded. if you want hard rock/metal, the HRD is one of the last amps I'd be looking at. in my opinion.

And mine. I didn't use any pedals for my clips but I'm now using a Keeley Java Boost for lead sounds.

haha, where did you hear that? I got mine because I like hard rock but I also like really clean stuff. The drive channel in the HRD sucks ass so I just use a pedal and that pretty much works for me. Really good sounding amp, but if you want something that sounds like a certain group or artist, best bet is to use what they use.
