OTTAWA, Canada (Reuters) -- Canadian troops fighting Taliban militants in Afghanistan have stumbled across an unexpected and potent enemy -- almost impenetrable forests of marijuana plants 10 feet tall.
General Rick Hillier, chief of the Canadian defense staff, said Thursday that Taliban fighters were using the forests as cover. In response, the crew of at least one armored car had camouflaged their vehicle with marijuana.
"The challenge is that marijuana plants absorb energy, heat very readily. It's very difficult to penetrate with thermal devices. ... And as a result you really have to be careful that the Taliban don't dodge in and out of those marijuana forests," he said in a speech in Ottawa, Canada.
"We tried burning them with white phosphorous -- it didn't work. We tried burning them with diesel -- it didn't work. The plants are so full of water right now ... that we simply couldn't burn them," he said.
Even successful incineration had its drawbacks.
"A couple of brown plants on the edges of some of those [forests] did catch on fire. But a section of soldiers that was downwind from that had some ill effects and decided that was probably not the right course of action," Hiller said dryly.
One soldier told him later: "Sir, three years ago before I joined the army, I never thought I'd say 'That damn marijuana'."
This could be the first time i've ever seriously considered a career in the military! :lol:

You're supposed to let them dry, combine them with tobacco, roll them in some cigarette paper and smoke 'em. :mrgreen: PDT_002 :stupid:

What they need to do is cut down all the plants they can, pack them up and send them to me I will see that the mary-jane is all dispossed of propperly. :twisted: :shock: 8) :idea:

In whatever meeting they held to decide how to try and dispose of the plants, anyone else get the feeling that "burn them" was intended to be a joke?

I reckon they should get a huge aluminium drum...cut holes, in the bottom and on one end, put the evil crop inside and burn it. As it burns they should buy a load of pizza and pizza and inhale very deeply

Although I don't own an armoured car I do consider camouflaging myself with marihuana so I can wander the streets of Amsterdam undetected when I go to work.
Burning marihuana with white phosphor or diesel isn't considered trendy yet over there but maybe Canadian tourists will introduce it later on. I am a bit worried however about the effects of the phosphor on the average smokers throat, I heard some rumours about hoarseness and burning vocal chords.

I reckon my mates and I could deforest it in a matter of hours - We've had a lot of practice with hand axes, and 10 foot high plants are no problem for us...And obviously we'd pass on the remains to the large number of stoners that have posted thus far :drink:
