Yippiieeehhh, won the auction, this is mine now for 250 GBP:

Anybody ever played one? What can I expect? Will it sound good on low Vol or will I need to crank the amp it's connected to?
I was GASing very long for one of these, now I can't wait !!!

Not sure if you need to crank it but I'm sure it'll be awesome, I'm quite jealous, especially as its pink.. no..wait....PINK!!!

It really tickles my 80s fetish, my girlfriend even just asked me to play some David Lee Roth and the whole of Passion And Warfare.
But wait, you're not such a metaller are you? I don't suppose you're hiding some spandex in your wardrobe?
-
Nope, sorry, all my stretch jeans and spandex trousers have been lost during the past years :)
The Pink pre would surely be VERY nice with your neon green JEM ...eh ...if this is yours in the avatar?
Maybe I should now get a late 80s pink Peavey Vandenberg model, that was very hip in those days ,)
-
you should get one of these

You mean one of these?
I used to really want one (a black one though), either that or the Kramer Nightswan which is quite similar, and ended up getting my Charvel fusion as its similar and cheaper.
Sadly the avatar isn't me, I do have a Jem but a 7VHW rather than the 777 in Loch Ness Green.
-
You're all wrong! Hello Kitty axis surely!

You could always take a permanant black marker to it Hunter! I would, as I've always said it's the sound which is more important!

Afghan Dave wants one of them!!!!
The Vandenberg guitars were great
-
I'm quite glad I didn't get one though as I'm sure spare parts for that Kahler floyd rose are impossible to get. But if I remember correctly they used a knife edge on the stud rather than the bridge and suggested rotating the stud as it wears out. Presumably the change in action was not deemed important enough to mention:wink:

Jon - You know my fetish for this model too well and trust my it is only a matter of time till I put in my order and we get to put a Feline spin on these classics.
My dream is too real.
-
Here you might be able to get one cheap ... in black though

Well, paid 5 days ago and haven't got it yet. The seller is acting a little weird and I'm starting to get concerned ...
Well he said he'd shipped it Thursday, so let's see whether it arrives Mon ...
-
sounds like its leg breaking time... round up the posse
-
Okido, it arrived today. There are Ruby tubes in there, I hope it's them being muddy or sth, but I had difficulties getting a decent tone out of it. Will try a quad of Sovteks I guess ... here's a clip.

I reckon it sounds pretty good. A little muddy on a couple of bits but still a nice tone.
-
speaking of vandenburgs theres one of Adrians in the Hardrock Cafe in leeds near me, it's all black and I want it so badly!
-
what axe did you use....? For the most part the definition sounds fine. A little bit of scooped mids could've helped in some parts buts would have killed the tone in others. Overall it sounded good.
I had to chuckle a bit though when I heard the sweet child'o'mine bits
Not pulling the mickey or anything, but a huge smile went across my face when I thought...
"Man I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a hard time playing that song"
I've been working on that for so long I actually gave up a while back!
Anyways, Try the mods but I think for a live sound its fine

Which Mods??? More info?
I plugged back and forth between Soldano through Shiva Poweramp in or through Shiva alone. Also tried the SP77 through the Palmer Junction direct or the Epi Valve Junior. It was fun to have th additional gain, but whenever I plugged back into the Shiva's own preamp, the sound had so much more body and depth, an ear opener each time. I was playing much longer and had so much more fun ... it's hard to beat.
But as you say, all these bells and whistles that the Bogner offers will hardly come across on a miked sound on stage. Maybe the easier playability of the SP77 would pay off there.
-
those Soldano preamps are a total bargain - I always used to GAS after those things when Sound Control first got 'em back in the day.

...especially if it works!

New tubes I meant
oh and I really didnt mean any offence I just meant I'm a pretty cr@p player..... and one day I'll get my head around nailing that song live.
from the clip you obviuosly played that stuff live and in one take straight off the cuff. You did pretty damn well in my books :)
-
oh and I really didnt mean any offence
Dude I was zero offended. Thx anyways:)
I'm at ease with myself playing quite slowhandish, I can do Gilmour very well, when Slash kicks in the turbo I gotta either improvise or play dirty :)
Orderd a quad of JJs and a quad of Sovteks, let's see

cool as....
Must admit no matter how hard I try I end up playing blues stlye walks.
I really wanna play more like billy gibbons but my phrasing always ends up really repetative shuffles.
Anyways let me know how you go.
-

I know what you mean. I think this would go away if you'd really play and jam a lot with others, that's where you open up new horizons, by exiting the comfort zone ... not saying that I'd play original, but whenever I thought I would, it was in times when I played with others ...
-
You should really try some EH tubes, I put some in my Engl pre (wich came with some horrible no name 12ax7 that looked like at least 5 years old, "retubed with ruby 6 month ago" my ass! ) and it did wonders. I got back the Engl sound I'd loved on other amps and no more noise, because EH are made with internal shielding :)
-
Dudes, I got my Sovteks and JJs today. So far I just put the Sovteks in, 2 12AX7LPS Audio grade and 2 12AX7LP normal in 3 and 4, and it SOUNDS AWESOME.
HELL AND HEAVEN, THIS PINKY THING IS EVIL !!!! INSTANT MOORE AND VAN HALEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will post clips soon, unbelieveable what a difference these tubes made ...
-
