Has anyone had any experience with this guitar?

What do, or did you think of this guitar?

Stupid question warning: How good is this guitar at actually nailing the Sabbath sound    :P ?

I just saw this and interest took over  ,

Haven't played on myself, but:

I know TG reviewed and gave it a glowing report, and that Tony Himself uses on for some recording. He also has a P-90'd up Epiphone, for rhythm duties.

For the best stuff on tony's gear just go to   his website (http://www.iommi.com)

A couple of workmates have the standard G400 model and, one of them recons it's the 2nd best guitar he has owned (the best was a Gordon Smith SG), the other guy says it feels better than the 900 quid originals he tried.

Both want to upgrade the pickups though.

Hate to be boring but have you tried one yet ?

Regarding them wanting to change the pickups, well thats understandable as Epiphone isnt renowned for having great electronics.

I dont think I would have that problem though considering the Epiphone Tony Iommi SG is fitted with Gibson USA Signature Iommi Humbuckers

Being boring: No.

I was gonna buy it off gak.co.uk ages ago but I got put off cos I never got to try it.

For some reason they dont have it in the shop.

I think I should maybe ask again though now that they have some more showroom space

Anyone else experienced or have an opinion on this guitar?

I've upgraded my '65 reissue Epi SG with Riff Raffs and US spec wiring, plus I have a Gordon Smith SG that should be receiving its MQ tomorrow.

The Epi, now it's been upgraded, is a cracking guitar.  Everyone who's played it reckons it's a really nice SG, and with the Riff Raffs it sounds superb.  I have no doubt that a good example of the TI Sig would be a great guitar.  I would say you need to try it out in person if you can, as I've seen and played a few '65 Epi SGs since I bought mine and none of them match up to my beauty.  They either feel a bit ropey with a clubby neck or have really obvious body wood joins etc.

I reckon the Iommi SG is definitely one to "try before you buy" - the pickups must make it more expensive(?) so it seems crazy to buy one blind and then find you want to change the pickups (unless you really love the crucifix inlays or the extra two frets).  I've never heard the Iommi pickups myself, but going by reviews opinions seem divided.

Off topic, but I see from that link that there's now an Epi version of the Firebird Studio!  Looks nice, and only the trussrod cover to show it's not the real thing...

I think from another topic, 24 frets was mentioned as a requirement for a new guitar (but with my memory)

As for the Epi firebird studio, I wonder if it's a bolt on neck like previous epi firebirds (well the last few I have seen anyway). Hmmm a firebird without mini HBs I just don't know about that :(

Yea I think should try it before I buy it.

Trouble is I dont think GAK stock it in the shop and only on the site, although I will ask them at the weekend.

I could maybe get them to get one from the warehouse for me to buy because 'I dont have internet' or something like that. The only trouble is that is might not like it and then they wud be so pissed off LoL  :P .

On the remark about the fretboard. I love those crucifixs.

It makes the guitar look evil   .

But I wouldnt buy it soley on that, so I will try to play it before I buy. Although I do have a guy I know who lives in Belgium who has one which he mentioned ages ago, but hes not been on msn for ages.

So maybe I could get hold of him.

As far as the firebird is concerned, well I dunno. Its not really suitable for what I wanna play, but it does look amazing   .

Thanks everyone for all your help,

RorySRV,
