I've been browsing alot on here and alot of the time I see Mississippi Queens paired with pups besides the other Mississippi Queen pickup.
Is it not a good idea to get the pair?
How do these fair against other Bucker sized P90 like say the Rio Grande Fat bar-stewards?
Please help a newbie out

well they sound a hell of a lot better than the rio grande, just like all the BKPs
they do pair well together, Matt Bellamy uses a pair in his chrome guitar, it's just that by pairing one with a humbucker, you can get a much wider range of tones, i went for a Black Dog in the bridge and a MQ in the neck of my Les Paul, which gives me a ridiculously versatile guitar
welcome to the forum mate

I have 2 in different sets, one is a Warpig bridge and MQ neck - Black Sabbath all the way! The other is a tapped MQ neck and slowhand middle and mini mule neck, I wanted more of a Leslie West meets Steve Marriott sound, with the ability to cover most bases when I got this guitar. It has almost the most complex wiring I ever did (and I have tried some wierd ones). It has 2 3-way blade selectors and 2 push pull pots, plus a preamp. You can get any combination of pickups (including all 3 together), and you can spilt the Mini Mule and tap the MQ!!

Thanks very much to the both of you. Very helpful indeed.
I think I'm gonna go with the Paired MQs however because I've always want a guitar with 2 P90s. (it's been a quest  )<---awesome smiley

One day I will have a Les Paul type thing with 2x P90s in it, as well.
But, that will be when I mellow out!!!!!!

MQ neck and Mule bridge me, love it - although I have a love/hate thing with P90s - are they fat sounding or are do they give mid range hump drive etc? - with treble maxed neck P90s rock better than any bucker and when EQ levelled and clean + chorused they give you that Indie sound. Also when wound up loud give you that Iommi sound. So versatile and they work so well with a humbucker in the middle position. Man, how I love my BKPs :D

I've been using P90's in the neck and humbuckers in the bridge for 6 years or so...I like that combination a lot especially with non-master amps where I use the bridge for dirty sounds and the neck for clean sounds. I however have a pair of MQ's in my Gibson ES-137. They're very good pickups and I do like them better in there than I did the Rio Grande I had in the neck position before though I think like anything else it's a matter of taste rather than being better. For what it's worth the Rio Grande did a better job at raging blues tones than the MQ but that's not what I'm using this guitar for. The bridge pickup is really nice and fat which I really like. I like the rawness of P90's but some can be a bit harsh and strident sounding. To me the MQ sounds like a nice mix of a P90 and a warm humbucker at least in my guitar but then again my guitar is extermely warm sounding acoustically...so much so that every other bridge pickup I tried was very, very muddy.
