Title: Finally!! I won a cab!
Post by: Crazy_Joe on October 19, 2006, 04:29:26 PM
After being denied about 5 times on ebay for a cheap 2x12 cab, i finally won one!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&item=230039982473&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

It says it's a Marshall 1960 2x12, though i've never heard of that one, i always thought 1960's were 4x12 cabs. But i think i can make out JCM on the bottom badge so it should be a good enough cab.

All i need now is my Laney GH50L head

JCM900 I think, coulnd't tell you what speakers are in it (maybe it said in the text but I didn't read it  )
But even if you don't like them you can upgrade
Good luck with the Laney, I have an old(ish) tube combo and it's brutal. I'd love a GH100L (and hotplate!!)

It could be a Marshall 1936 2x12 which would be good or a Marshall 1922 which is smalller in size

Nice move - that'll be a 1936 or 1922 cab with G12-75T speakers...

I don't think it is a 1922 or 1936, because the badges say the 1936 or 1922 on them, however this one says jcm 900.

The older '22s and '36s only said JCM900  ;)

Ahh, well all i can say is it best not be the 1922, because they are smaller and don't fit heads on them.

lol i just looked at the pic again and it was pretty obvious it was a 1936 because it is on top of a 4x12

And Davey, i think GH50L's cost a bit more than 100 quid  :P

Doesn't look that bad to me - bit dusty maybe and the tolex is a it loose inside.  Easily glued  :D

I reckon he just took the back panel off for the photos.  If not, I'm sure Laney can get you a new one.

He said in the description it has no back panel, don't know how you can lose a back panel but oh well.

That'll be one awesome setup when you get it through.

If I wasn't so rack obsessed at the moment, I'd try to get a hold of one of those GH50L's. Actually I may still try and get one...

these Laney GH50L's look like an absolute steal for the money i mean gak.co.uk are doing them for £399 new..

from what i've heard they're pretty nifty aswell, I think i may have to get one at some point once i've got my splawn competition and use it as a clean head.

Yeah i want a good classic/80's metal tone, and i have heard clips and i think it can do it fine, and i'm getting myn from Nevada Music which has them for £389 inc. postage!

Didnt think to check Nevada. I was gonna get mine from GAK for £399 but I'll have to get'er from Nevada now :)

Edit - just looked.. Nevada seem to only do em stock with 5881 I think, I want EL34s in straight away  :( Dont want to buy an amp then have to go get new valves and bias it all and everything..

Post by: gingataff on October 21, 2006, 04:22:29 PM
You don't need to rebias, they jut have a switch don't they?  To be honest I don't know much about valve types :?

Post by: Crazy_Joe on October 21, 2006, 04:57:59 PM
I was going to get myn from Gak, but then i saw it was cheaper on Nevada, though i thought they were the same tubes. Well now i will have o get it from Gak, can't be arsed with changing tubes.

I think so, but apparently it still needs a bit of tweaking in the bias from what I've read in some HC reviews I think.

i think you'd still need to bias. i think the switch is just to make sure it's close enough so you can bias accurately for the two different tube types.
