Title: I bought a Cornford!
Post by: maliciousteve on October 20, 2006, 06:24:48 PM
Hey guys, just got back from a spur of the moment type day. I got a second hand Cornford Harlequin. I tested it with a PRS Standard and i loved it. It's pretty versatile for such a little amp and it sounds awesome. Not bad for £499 and i've wanted a cornford ever since i played through a Carrera and heard Guthrie Govan's clips of his stuff.

Yes mate. I was in two minds about it at first, but then i thought, bugger it just get it.

They annoyed me today though, they were being quite arrogant and snobbish about the death of Dimebag Darrell. Really tried hard to ignore them

well

"jumping in front of that bullet was the best thing he ever done"

I thought it was quite out of order to say that about someone who they never knew.

Unpleasent, it's a bit like all the magazines that slagged him off then when he died started about how much they liked him

It's perfectly reasionable to say you didn't like him or his music, but not to say that.

Anyway are you enjoying the amp ?

Rob...

seconded. I'm no major fan of nirvana but I don't go round saying "i'm glad kurt died" or any rubbish like that. because it's not true.

Steve, good choice they're great amps. Its difficult to get a bad tone out of 'em but its worthwhile finding the sweetspot which can take a bit of  time.

The long haired blonde one. He comes across as a bit of a dick anyway.

On other things

I've been enjoying it alot. I can't wait for tomorrow morning when everyones out, so i can crank it up a bit and see what it can really do. I've never been able to turn a tube amp right up and listen to the clean channel before, so to hear a cranked up clean tone is something i'm looking forward to.

Nice one Steve! I bet it's a real gem. I'd love to try one out one day myself but you rarely see them in the shops. I bet a my I.T strat with a Dos Mos in front would be amazing!! Not very metal but still a nice tone.

Guitar shop assistants bitch by nature about everything and everyone musically and guitar related. I love a spar with the idiots who say things like that and would have done so if I'd heard a comment like that as that is just spiteful. Why are they such w**kers? It's the same in virtually every shop you go in in this country. I did go in a few good ones in Reading that were ok though. My local shop is good but there's some new lads in there and they are arseholes already and it's only been a few months since they started working there. Ahh bollocks to em.. you have a Cornford!

Motorbike shops are the same as it happens! This prick, years ago was trying to charge me 4.20 for a stop and tail 12 v bulb once and i knew he was trying it on and i went $%&#in mental at him!!  They cost 50p.

^ ^ i wouldn't say all music shop guys are dicks... like most things, it depends on the shop, and depends on the people. Some of the shops round here are great, and one or two aren't so good.

Most of the guys in Coda who i have met were great, especially that guy at Stevenage with the long brown hair who has a trendy/hippie kinda thing going on lol. I don't think i've seen the long blonde haired guy.

Tones are a personal thing....

Personally I think Cornford’s are among the best amps in the world in terms of a pure, organic and very responsive tone. However that has little to do with how you may perceive them.....if they don’t do it for you that’s all good....each to there own.

Just out of interest do you consider the tones on Guthrie Govan’s cd to be "buzzy and horrible"?

I heard Jamie Humphries at last years Music Live and his tone was amazing, and was using a Cornford of some description..

I tried a hellcat last year and wasn't that impressed, but this year tried a hurricane and loved it. My ear for tone has changed pretty drastically since then, though.

alternatively, you just don't like 'em... which is fair enough. most people like different tones... i wouldn't say it's anything wrong with you, lol.
