Title: Does anyone own a Maxon OD808 Pedal?
Post by: adamzap on October 23, 2006, 07:54:34 PM
A few of the guitarists I like use it...it's supposed to be great for fine tuning the distortion you already have.

Has anyone used one? Is it worth the $135?

it's pretty nice. at that kind of price, though, there are lots of options (or at least, for not much more cash)

it's just a bog standard tube-screamer, just get a TS5 or TS10 and mod it.  if you search ebay you'll see pre-modded ones too.  there is literally the difference of two resistors with the TS5 though the TS10 does require a little more work (but still doable).

I've got a Maxon OD-9 that I like a lot. I tried it out in the shop against an Ibanez TS-9 and an Ibanez TS808 reissue.  I prefered the warmer, midrange focus of the OD-9 over the other two.

Id recommend trying a few Tubescreamer types out and seeing which suits you best.  There are loads of subtle variations.

^ seconded. I preferred the 808, you really need to try them all if at all possible.
