Title: using a mesa mark IIC+ with a modern high gain amp...
Post by: octavio_amzer on October 24, 2006, 09:09:23 PM
how do you use this setup in an effective way in live playing? I'm looking for a very unique rythm tone and wanted to see if it was a good idea to combine my mark IIC+ with a modern high gain amp. in stereo? together? what?

your thought and opinions please...

there are a couple of devices which allow you to switch between different amps, and i think route your signal to more than one at a time.  i know Morley make one, it's actually got George Lynch's signature on it!  and i remember seeing one on one of the boutique pedal makers' sites, HBE or Toadworks.

i have heard guitar being played through two amps at once, one heavily distorted and one just overdriven, and it sounded great.  and good ole Diamond Darrel used to record with three amps, one each for bass, mid and treble.

don't know if that's any help, but it's what i got 8)

I wonder how it would sound if you had 2 amps at the same time, other clean and other overdriven and then playing some blues
damn that might sound cool

I beleive that Kieth Richards does that a lot.

The Rickenbacker Ric O Sound has been used to do that since the early 60s to route the neck & bridge pickups to different amps (not quite the same thing as you had in mind)

Cool, could you tell some songs by Rolling Stones where Keith plays like that?

(sorry octavio_amzer for a little thread stealing :P )

apparently a slightly breaking up clean tone and a totally saturated tone playing through a stereo cabinate is supposed to sound absolutely huge!

I'd get a Keeley AB amp switcher, and buy an Orange head, it would be MEGA!

I used to gig with a two amp setup...

* Fender Tonemaster & Marshall Jubilee (metal)
* Fender Tonemaster & Marshall Bluesbreaker (rock)

I sounded absolutely HUGE - definately worthwhile if you can be bothered.

Yeah cleans will make your tone bigger...
