:?

After reading many good reports regarding Bare Knuckle pickups I have decided I would like to purchase two humbucker sets, one for my Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard Plus (mahogany/maple top body) and the other set for PRS Tremonti SE (mahogany body).

I should point out that my experience with high quality professional sounding pickups are somewhat limited  After spending a lot of time reading other people’s opinions on this forum, which I might add is a great forum, I am still a little unsure as to which pickups to get for these guitars.  I should also mention that I will be using these guitars with a Marshall TSL100 half stack.

I am almost sure on a calibrated Rebel Yell set for the Epiphone Elitist Les Paul.  With this setup I am hoping to get a very full tone that has very nice definition and grind from the bridge PU as apposed to high gain mush.  Don’t get me wrong, I love high gain but I like it to be balanced and defined.  I am also hoping it will perform well for more classic rock stuff when rolled back on the volume, as well as a nice clean that is not overly bright in this guitar.  For the neck PU I am hoping for a smooth well balanced lead tone and a clean that is not too muddy.

Regarding the PRS Tremonti SE I am considering a calibrated set of Nailbombs as I believe the tone of this guitar to be similar to an SG and I have read many posts on the forum favourably commenting on Nailbombs in their Gibson SG or similar guitars.  This guitar currently has an EMG 81/85 combination that to me sounded very average.  I initially had the 81 in the bridge and 85 neck but this made the guitar sound overly bright in the bridge position, although the neck sound was ok.  I have since swapped the 85 to the bridge which made it sound a lot better, a little more balance.  I am assuming this is because of the Alnico V in the 85 as apposed to the Ceremic in the 81.  This is why I feel the Nailbombs could be a good choice for this guitar.  Although I am reasonable happy with the 85 in the bridge of this guitar I still feel EMG’s lack something compared to passive PU’s.

I would really appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Thankyou for taking the time to read my post.

Sounds like you've made a very educated choice.  Good luck with it!

I support that.  I have a set of Rebel Yells in my Les Paul and they're absolutely awesome!   And I have a Nailbomb on the way with two Trilogy Suites for something meaner too.... I think I will like it ;)
