Which pickups would get a similar tone, output, vibe to his?

I would go with something with low output like the Stormy Mondays or Mississippi Queens. 8)

Bkps are massive overkill for that IMO ;)

But anywah, yeah, mules I'd say.

He playes a $60 guitar that is falling apart. BKPs are overkill. It's really all about the amp and fingers for his tone.

+1.

If we're talking his White Stripes tone I don't think you'll get any help from  'upgrading' to good pups......you'd be better off looking for the cr@ppiest pickups you can find*.

* Is saying this in a serious manner and not to insult Jack White.

His new tone is made by a Gretsch Jet. Closest to a Filtertron sound would be a p90 or a Mississippi Queen.

I'd go with the rest of the guys and say Mississippi Queens.  They have that low end and high end cut.

maybe everyone is listening to another band called The White Stripes but for me he is one of the only current players getting REAL tone from a guitar.

the humbuckers in those National guitars don't sound anything like P90s so I can't understand the MQ suggestions. these guitars have low output humbuckers - a Stormy Monday or Mule is gonna be the closest you'll get with BKP.

I was under the impression that that guitar of his was an eastwood airline (or possibly an airline eastwood, cant remember). I agree Stormy mondays are probably the closest things you could get, but he uses a load of ancient boutique amps and pedals so I agree on the "more in the fingers and amps" point.
Off topic, but i love the 'stripes. not a huge fan of jacks tone, but music-wise he never fails to impress me. Always has to be different
