Title: Anyone Got £100K to spare??

Do you think that the bidders know something or think that it is a scam?

Strange thing is that they are all in the USA!

No -it's simply the case that someone has put a stupid high bid in ( a million quid or something) and every time that somebody else bids it raises the bid amount
I guess it's a spoof bid - if not a spoof item

Weird.  It certainly isn't a '66 or '67, because there weren't any LPs produced in those years (or were there?!).  The serial number and specs suggest it could be a '69, but is a 69 Les Paul worth £100,000???  Maybe it is.

If someone has put in a "joke" bid, eBay will probably cancel it when they notice.

Perhaps it is legit, but I'm always a bit suspicious when eBay sellers come out with all that "I'm no expert, I've been told that..." stuff.  I once saw a Strat that someone had "found in his Dad's garage" or something, and he dropped all these hints that it might be a 60s model etc.  But you could tell from the blurry pictures that it was a copy, and not even a good one - the hardware looked cheap, it had a black plastic nut; even the body, headstock and scratchplate shapes were wrong.  Then someone bought it for about £650!

Agree that it looks like a 69 model and this ties with the serial number. Strange that all the bidders are in the USA though. According to my Gibbo book they only made about 2700 that year, so they are relatively rare, but... £100K !!! That's a lot of nice guitars!

I meant maybe it is to somebody, for reasons of their own.  If it was a fifty-nine rather than a sixty-nine it would be worth that kind of money.

Must admit, I know a bit about vintage guitars but very little about their values.  Although I did see a mid-60s Melody Maker, exactly the same as mine, selling for twice what mine cost the other day, so looks like that was a good investment.  If only I had about 1,000 of them I'd be made for life.
