OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy hell, this amp oozes tone, such a sweet clean and overdrive tones. Then the crunch tone is very cool, nice n liquid, sounds like a pushged overdrive but then you kick in the extra drive and and OMG this screams distortion. I have the gain all the way up on the gain and drive of the crunch channel and it just belts out the bass and the gain. AMAZING! and that is only just through a 2X12
Heres the pics:

Its soooo fooooking great!
I love it.
MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Laney = win.
The clean when I roll down the guitar volume with the GH50L on an ac/dc level of crunch is amazing, I actually prefer it to my Fender, I didnt think I'd ever say that! Sounds great with either the amps gain or a Rat infront of it. Tis a bit bright but EQ pedal will sort that out I hope.
Gonna try recording mine using the hotplates line out into my mic socket and some speaker sim plugin in Cubasis to see if I can get a good recorded tone.
-
You wont get a good tone, the recording out ont eh Hotplate's are a bit bobbins
An SM-57 is the easiest way. It looks like me n u are the BKP/Laney Club memebers so far tom :)

:D I`d like to hear that experiment Tom.

I think you'll find I'm the founder of the BKP/Laney club ;)
SG with Riff Raffs
Gordon Smith GS-1 with Mule
Gordon Smith SG-1 with Mississippi Queen
Laney GH50L
Laney Klipp 60w
I'm on the lookout for a 100w Klipp and will be getting a Black Dog/Mule combo for my Les Paul at some point.
-
I've had a Laney Pro-Tube since 89/90, does that count?
-
I have a GH50L but no BKP's.
-
LC30 and BKP91...
-
WOOO BKP/Laney Club. Fun!
-
 :D
im thinking about a VH100 though... or maybe the combo version as its way cheaper, how much you get yours for Joe?
nice one btw. i know steve on here has one and loves it.

VC30 plus my little collection as below.

LC30 and BKP91...
i thought you hated your lc30?

shhhhhhhhh!!!

^

VH100R's are the shite aren't they. Incredibly loud too don't you think :D
-
Just wondering, whats everyone using for speakers with their Laneys?
I may replace the top speaker in my 2x12 with something less trebbly, V30s seem a popular choice..
-
I'm using a Marshall 4 x 12 compact cab. The ones that were built for the first ever valvestate Marshalls (not the AVT). It's a very good sounding cab surprisingly. It's much darker sounding that the usual Marshall cabs which helps balance out the brightness of the VH100.
-
I'd go with a V30 Tom, or maybe a classic lead?
-
From what I've read the Classic Lead seems to be an "updated" V30 with a better midrange or something. Then again it was only a HC review so probably cant be trusted  Eminence do some "british voiced" speakers as well and are probably a bit cheaper because they probably arent as popular as Celestion.. anyway I'm rambling again.

My head was 500 pounds, which is awesome, it was second hand off dem from sounds great, he had use it 3 times in gigs and its mint condition. They are cracking heads, i used it live for the first time last night and it was sweet.

Oh you got it then, cool :D
I think we need to hear some clips, thank you please.
Oh I couldn't send those thrice tracks (I'll try something else though) kept getting an error or the files we're too big or something.
-
No worries deadstar. This am is soooo great. We might be recording somethime soon, we always are at the mo, so I'll send you some links when we get some done.

I feel like i've just had a hammer swun round my head. I just turned my VH100 up to 2 and a half. I couldn't go higher than that, because i would of started to see things rumble off shelves and possibly had complaints from the whole street.
I had been considering getting a high gain amp like a Powerball or 6505 but after just hearing what this thing can REALLY do has made me deffinatly change my mind. That 'fizz' you hear at low volumes disappears and just tightens up incredibly. That was with my Mockingbird with the Painkiller.
I added my Keeley TS-9DX to the chain and set the controls to HOT with the gain down and the level up and plugged in my 7 string. I've never heard my 7 string sound better. Everything just sang and i've finally found the 7 string i've been after. I'm in awe still.
-
sounds like Laney is the way to go... definitely my future amp... im considering GH100L, GH50L, and the VH100R. i need more sound clips to sway me more :) im not trying to hassle you, though! im not that sort of person :)

I have a Laney 4x12 cab, can I join?

Can I join the Laney/BKP club with my Laney LH50r -II head and BKP SMs /Mules :D
The LH50 head is currently going through a Matamp cab fitted with Celestion 12-75 GT speakers. They seem good all round speakers, but as I like the old Peter Green sounds, might one day save up for a set of Greenbacks ...
The only limitation in aiming to capture the quintessential 'British' sound of yesteryear - is that I have the 6L6 output type of Laney. It is lovely and smooth, both clean and overdriven - but as I have never tried an EL34 voiced amp, dont know (by comparison) if the 6L6s will give the midrange defintion the Greenbacks seem to deserve.
By the way Hunter, what speakers are in your 4x12 Laney cab ?
Any opinions you might have would be greatly appreciated !
Ta ever so ...

Whooo Hooo ! - do let me know how you find it compares/fits in with your existing rig Davey. Remember to include essential observations, such as how well it matches your indoor sunglasses 8) ...

I think i'm going to swap my EL34s for some 6L6's when I get a chance, and some money. I dont really like british sounds, lol. Oh well

Hi Joe,
Don't get me wrong, as a Fender amp fan, I love the HUGE glassy soundstage and headroom that 6L6s give.
With a 6L6 loaded Laney, I have a warmer version of the Fender sound, but with a lot more (smooth) gain when I need it.
It's just that I always associate Jensen speakers with 6L6s and V30 or Greenbacks with EL34. (Not that I have ever owned a EL34 type amp ).
I also read on someone else's post that the EL34 output had:
"more midrange detail".
I was therefore not sure if 6L6s and Greenbacks were 'tonal bedfellows'.
Answers on a postcard please ... :D
By the way Joe, if you desire the 6L6, I can heartily recommend the 7581a type that I got from Watford valves last year. Even cleaner and tighter sounding than the 6L6 type. The biasing was very close to being the same as standard 6L6 types.

Awesome, thanks man. I love the cleaner and tighter sound. And it will give a clearer tighter preamp gain too, as it would be too loud to push the full 100 watts to get any decent power amp breakup in venues smaller than arenas :).
This is my first 3 page post :) sweeet

One more thing Joe, if you like clean sounds and detail:
I usually fit at least one 5751 type pre-amp valve in my larger amps to ensure the quintesential Fender/SRV sound. These are a 12AX7 type, but with only about 75% of the gain. They add a lot of detail and articulation to your sound, especially if you put one as the first valve in your pre-amp stage.
I have tried them throughout my Fender 'The Twin' and Laney LH50R, but when used all the way through they 'cool down' the gain channel too much.
Whilst I do not play Stevie Ray Vaughan stuff, I read with interest that he kitted out his Fender amp's pre-amp stages throughout with 5751 types to get that massive clean sound, (even with a tube screamer pushing up the front).
Each one you use tends to bring the overall volume down a bit, but that does not sound like it would be a problem to you.
In the end, (to get the best of both worlds) - I ended up just using the one 5751 at the first input stage of my amps and then nice clean sounding N.O.S 12AX7 types for the rest.
If in doubt about voicing and choices, contact Derek at watfordvalves.com to ensure you get the right combination. They do tend to be the BKP of valves and speakers, as they test a sample of their products in actual amps at full throat as well as the electrical tests.
Hope that helps,
:D

Cheers FF, i like the sound of the 5751 12Ax7, that would abe awesome. I am also a big watford valves fan, they are ace, very good customer servuice too.
I will just have to seek out my first preamp valve in my VH100R, well, i have a 1 in 6 chance :)

Hey Joe (good idea for a song that ... :D )
In case you are not kidding me, the first pre-amp valve is usually physically the nearest one to the input jacks. It acts as the buffer for the jack sockets, and begins the job of amplifying their content down the line. The good thing about a 5751 (being the same electrode construction and voltage requirement as a 12AX7) - is that you can put it/them anywhere you have just removed a 12AX7 and see if you like what you hear.
As a general guide, the 12UA7 is lowest gain (i.e just above unity gain) and is usually used as a phase splitter for the reverb and output stages in Fender amps. Next is the 5751 at about 75% gain - and then the usual 12AX7.
Laney amps seem to use 12AX7 types throughout.
They relate to the old Mullard types as follows:
ECC81 = 12UA7
ECC82 = 5751
ECC83 = 12AX7
Enjoy the tone quest Joe ! :D

I sense the devil on my tail Davey ...
Is it the sacrilege of actually 'cooling' a Laney down and playing clean - or has your own arrived yet ?
spill the beans, I'm all ears :D

I got my first chance to play my VH100 with a full band tonight. I was shocked at how great it cut through everything. I could hear every note, every mistake and the sustain was incredible.
I used my PRS Standard 24 for tonight and i got a great metal tone. Couldn't be happier as I just had my first practice with my new band. Played Hangar 18 and started writing some new stuff. This might just be the band i've been looking for, for a long time. Kinda had a mixture of Megadeth, Death and Iced Earth. Happy time!

Good to hear Steve

I've been playing my GH50L all afternoon, the crunch on this thing is absolutely amazing. If I get a VHII loaded superstrat I think I'll nail the tone on Aint Talkin Bout Love perfectly. I'm almost there with my Mule loaded LP. I'll still get a new speaker for the bottom of my cab. Now just gotta choose between a V30 and G12H!
