Title: Neck Pickup - Difference between the Mule and MQ
Post by: Mister Crowley on November 15, 2006, 10:41:21 PM
Hi guys,

I ordered an LP Studio off Musicansfriend ($999, great deal) and want to put some BK's in it. I'm putting a Nailbomb in the bridge and was going to go for the MQ in the neck. I usually play only clean on the neck and only dirt on the bridge with a few expections. Me being an appearance freak I wanted to do zebra HB's and of course MQ's only come in covers. So I was pondering doing a Mule/Nailbomb combo with Zebra Coils. My question is how different sounding would the Mule be than the MQ; I do realize there will be differences of bouse since one is a low output HB and the other is medium output P-90.

The Mule sounds smoother with a slight midrange hump.  Think Gary Moore blues and Slash lead tones.

The MQ is beefy with a hefty bass/mid and more defined note separation.  Think SRV on steroids and Shine on You Crazy Diamond.

Thanks for the reply. So you actually think I would get sweeter cleans from the Mule?

Having a MQ in the neck of my SG, I would say the Mule will give you smoother cleans.
