any reccomendations. its for an ibanez rg270dx. i want a decent one that doesnt cost the earth ( if there is such a thing!!)
are the ibanez edges as good as an original rose. they both cost bout 160 though, its got to be done!

The Ibanez edge or Lo pro edge is an excellant choice and rivals the Floyd Original in many ways
I personally like the Floyd original best on my own guitar because it is what I am most used to.
We stock or can get ahold of the Ibanez tremolos

I have a feeling that the edge and/or lo-pro won't fit (at least if the route is anything like on my rg470).
I think gotoh is probably the cheapest good one- if your current locking nut is ok, it's only £110 (as opposed to closer to £150 for an OFR/edge, or even more for a schaller).

there are routing templates on there, you need to make sure it'll fit too (and also check the diameter of the studs, that's what make it not be a straight swap in mine! :( )

how can i make sur its a straight swap? i dont want to mess about routing the body ive just finished spraying. id rather pay a little extra knowing it will definately fit!!!
also, how would i go about locking it so it only goes down? ive been tole to glue a couple of pound coins to the front of the block but it seems a bodge to me!

just compared the ones on wdmusic and the unit measures up but the studs are miles too bid, length and with. could the existing ones be used?
-
theres a guy on ebay selling originals for 165. hes got them for r2 r3 and r4 nuts???? which one do i need?
-
if you download the routing templates from those links I gave you, that should be the easiest way to tell if it'll fit or not- you'll probably need to take out your current trem to measure your guitar.
you can use your current studs, but they won't be as high quality as the gotoh ones, and will also void the warranty on the gotoh trem (i asked them the same question!).
i think it tells you which nut th r2 and r4 are on the floyd rose website- if memory serves the r4 is 1 11/16" (43mm) which, being an ibanez, is most likely the one you want. Bear in mind, though, that the Floyd Rose studs are quite big too, and still may not fit.
-
thanks dave. the floyde is out and its just the studs are too big. i will hace to re use the originals im assuming the nut sizes refer to the actual nut on the neck?
-
^ i think so.
Problem is, if you use the original studs, you're more than likely voiding the warranty on the trem, and also they won't be as good studs.
up to you, obviously.
