I get seriously tempted by these Laneys. However, unlike a lot of the guys on here, I don't really 'do' metal. I guess the hardest distortion I would want would be something like Dave Navarro's with Jane's Addiction, or Billy Corgan with the Pumpkins. But mostly I use less gain than that. Do you think a Laney would still be an appropriate choice (changing from a JCM800)?

I have an old Laney Pro-Tube, which was the second guitar head I ever bought, back when I was 19 years old. So, that means I own this-here club, not some Crazy-Joe-Come-Lately!

Sorry but as far as gear goes it's strictly "he who has the most toys (Laneys) wins"

My very first amp, back in 1980, was a Laney Mighty Eight practice amp.  Does that count?

I dont play loads of metal either and have a GH50L. It has a nice clean if you set it up that way, and I'd say it can do Navarro tones no problem. I think people say the GH50L is like a JCM800 with more gain on tap, so maybe its not "different" enough for you, if youre after something different that is.

The GH50L will be officially mine on Monday, I expect I'll be playing with it all day :D

I don't think the Laneys are by any means exclusively metal amps!  All the models I've tried out have always seemed to have a very versatile range of tones in them, definitely including some very classic ones.  Indeed, I've always liked the Laney amps precisely because they have a classic vibe to them without sounding just like a Fender or a Marshall.  Good value for money, I've always thought.

i've owned a Laney LC30-II and LC15R.. Can I join??

I always find the only thing that lets Laney Combo's down is the speakers in the cab are pants, but the amp it's self with a good set of tubes + cab is killer.

I am in too with my VC30-actually is the model with the Jenson speakers and sounds pretty good-excellent clean sounds and just-breaking-up blues tones but you metal chappies mightn't be too keen.

I agree with carlaz, Laneys aren't simply all about metal. I've had a TF300 for about 7 years now, and had a GC30 before that. Plenty of nice sparkly clean tones and a nice blues crunch to be had from a Laney without it taking your head off. Course it'll do that too if you want it to.  :)

You could have put it on Ebay, someone might have been (ahem) persuaded to take it off your hands

Unfortunately ran out of time to organise it and couldn't be arsed to lug it to the new house.

Shame.

Still i guess with the curent trends in amps moving towards boutique Class A tube stuff, on second thoughts a knackered 120W tranny amp might have been harder to shift than my intial optimistic outlook suggested.

Yep, the GH50L can get bloody heavy if you want to aswell

I played mine for the first time in a band situation, it sounded amazing. The other guitarist with his DSL50 halfstack was asking "Now why cant I get a good sound like that" It should be even better when I get my new speaker(s), I got a G12H coming to replace the PA speaker which is in the bottom at the minute. Cant wait.

The bottom line is, if you want a good Marshall, get a Laney  :D

Correct!  I think I raise a few eyebrows when I turn up at a gig with the Klipp and a GH50L but after our first set they're flocking rounf in awe  :D

I used the GH50L in rehearsal tonight as my Klipp is being serviced.  Damn those amps are good!  It hasn't quite got the 3D depth of the Klipp or a boutique head, but for the money you just can't fault them!

Hey Tom, i tried your settings, they are quality! It's so clear at low volumes, and i was playing with gain at 8 and drive at 8.

Told you so :D I found that with the bass over 3 it sounds way too muddy with my cab. New speaker should be here today I cant wait to give it a good thrashing

I'm taking the morning off school to wait for my bloody Schecter. That tw@t is not answering my messages, he best not be scamming me, but he can't because his messages are in my inbox and he has like over 1000 positive feedback.

If it doesn't come today i'm going to kill him.

I just installed a new set of Harma 6L6FC valves in my VH100R  :D

It has a more 'chuggy' sound to it, everything is a bit clearer (chords, very low notes on 7 string) . But i think i prefer the cleans with the EL34's, but i'll do a bit more tweaking with that first.
