I was able to kill 2 birds with one stone today: First, I was able to play the Riff Raff/Stormy Monday loaded Agile through the Splawn today. And second, I was able to test out the new Rode NTK valve mic I picked up for the demo sessions next month.
Here's the audio:

If you can't open the player, use this one: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=169000
It's the top clip, Song X Solo Section[/b]

What I found totally enlightening is the fact that the Riff Raff in a Les Paul nails the old Queensryche tone (Rage For Order, Warning era) if I roll the gain back a bit.

nice clip, ben. sounds like a nice mic, definitely- and the riff-raff (I'm assuming i was used the whole way through) seems to have quite nice cleans too!
what kind of volume was that at? I can see the knobs... I just can't really make out what's written above them.
-
Excellent atmospheric and Smoky lead sound in the neck
i Liked it very much... it sounds like .. : a big tobogan ,a watterfall of honey falling down on it, and at both sides of the tobogan, filled with clouds.
Q:p
shite, the translation turned out pretty band.
Ahahaahahah

Cleans are the Stormy Monday, as well as the 2nd half of the solo.

LOL, there are no numbers on my amp, man! You just turn it until it sounds like angels are callin!
As for the volume ... I would say 'reasonably loud'; ie, loud enough to be a bother if I did it for more than 20 minutes. Definitely loud enough for anyone in the hallway outside our apt to hear.

(b) aye... i meant to see which knob was treble, volume etc.
the splawn seems very nice, though. If I can get enough money together, I might have to look into one eventually.

I can't possibly match JP's description 8) , but that sounded excellent! I really liked the clean tones too.
And your daughter is beautiful (if I can say that without getting arrested  ).
-
:D Ben what was the Mic ?
Can you do another recording playing rythem for me Ben ? When you`ve got time so i can hear how well the mic picks things up etc.
:D 8)

Pretty daaaamn nice tone there :D
I'm guessing the rhythm guitars are a lot quieter so we can hear the full tone of the lead guitar (for the purposes of this) just seems a little unbalanced.
And your daughter is beautiful (if I can say that without getting arrested Rolling Eyes ).
>Insert JP style laughter here<, yeah cute kid. However, in the second picture I've got my money on the tellytubbies theme tune (or something to that effect) is really being played. Kids these days don't know the joy of 1980's cartoons though - tis a sad day

@ jt ... The mic is a Rode NTK. Thus far, I am blown away by it! Sure, I can make a recording for ya with just the riffing. I can also remix this clip, and take the lead out of it, if that will serve. Just post, and I shall do it!
@ Deadstar ... Yes, I mixed the piece 'lead heavy' since that was the main focus. I didn't do any post EQ, so what you're hearing is the Splawn in 2nd Gear for the riffing, and 3rd Gear for the lead.
@ Deadstar & Philly Q ... Yes, Miranda is a little doll! And yes, she's actually listening to the clip! She's very much into guitar playing!! She loves the sound of the guitar, walks around singing all day, and has EXCELLENT pitch memory. She is, as they say, a natural, it would seem.
-
I can't add to what has been said but I love the descriptions and Ben, your little lady is beautiful-so cute.

OK,hire me as a guitar choper teacher for your daughter,
IŽll teach rhythm, and you teach theory and leads.
i complete with psycho-socio-phylosophical Teachings related to music.
EX - my description of the Stormy monday neck.
Also, to complete my contribution to this post, let me ask you something
i would like to hear a comparison clip, same lead, same rhythm. between stormy monday neck and cold sweat neck. so i could choose my next neck pickup.
2 separated clips. the same content, played by two different neck pickups.

$%ing Hails And Brazilian Distorted Bunda Regards

Nice clip as always Ben :)
I use Rode Nt-1A and Nt5's a lot myself, been itching to try out the NTK too but as yet haven't had time or cash to do so. You may have inspired me to track one down ;)
Keep up the good work.

:D Thanx Ben !!
That would be great. Of course just remix it [ that believe it or not never occurred to me ! ]
Could you remix it with just Rhythm & then Just Lead ? so i can hear how the mic deals with both. If it isn`t a problem Ben how much did the Mic cost ?
Cheers

$600 USD
A couple of things to note:
1. These are the uncompressed wav files, so they SHOULD sound mucn better.
2. The panning on the rhythm track is intentional to demonstrate how it sounds with one track in mono, and then panned to dual guitars.
3. This was tracked using my Hiwatt cab, not the Rivera. The Hiwatt has a different tone than the Rivera, and I think that the mic captures those nuances really well.

:D Many Thanx Matey !!!!
:D 8)
Edit. Sounds really great. Loved how the Rythm sounds very very good even in mono. I`m impressed........I`m Very impressed ! 8)
