Title: Second Opinion needed (well, appreciated certainly)
Post by: nfe on December 07, 2006, 07:00:17 PM
Just looking for some more opinions, reasons why etc Have emailed Tim and his immediate respone was Painkiller, it wasn't a pickup I'd really considered at that point, I'm more than happy to swing with his judgement, but if anyone has any other thoughts....Also, what do we think might be a good neck pairing, or a Painkiller set maybe?

This is the email i sent him (the guitar is a Parker Fly Mojo Flame, which I've just realised I didn't actually mention....)

Howdy,

having been reading the forums for a few weeks and asking bits and bobs, I'm still rather undecided on a new set of humbuckers.

I predominantly play in thrash and death metal bands, but do like to be able to get more varied sounds out of my guitars too.

I need extremely tight bass response, which tends to make me think of Miricle man, Ceramic warpig... but I like a good mid range push for cutting through mixes, plus I'd like to be able to get reasonable clean sounds at the bridge and good cleans at the neck. A big fat but still clear lead sound at the neck i'm after too.

I'm playing all mahogany guitar with maple top, into a triple rectifier....

I'm really struggling to make any kind of a decision at all currently so any advice or ideas would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Neil Erskine

Cheers in advance guys

I'd go with Tim's suggestion too - when Tim described the Painkiller to me it was pretty much what your description was.

I do not play Thrash (well not in usual/conventional sense anyway) but your requirements fit my Painkillers to a T!

You should mention the Mojo to Tim, I've got a sneak feeling there *might* be an issue with fitting the pickup as std. Anyone?

There is, but the guitar tech who does all my work (who is a Bareknuckle dealer) has already had that conversation with Tim

Right, the painkiller has been decided upon, any suggestions for the neck? Or Painkiller set the way to go???

I'd been thinking cold sweat maybe, seems to get recommended a lot with all of the high output humbuckers.
