Hi guys
Need some help here:
Ive bought a Jackson SL3 soloist, but do not know what to put in it. I already have the nailbomb and miracle man, but I am still bitten by the BKP bug. Ive narrowed it down to the holydiver and the painkiller, tipping a bit to the painkiller side.
I mainly play all sorts of metal, from black sabbath to bodom. Even some satyricon and darker sorts of metal. But I am not into the style of music that need the raw, psyched sound of a warpig, that would be too much for me. So ill need a solo pickup that excel at playing thrash metal in the vicinity of megadeth, and some of the modern trivium sound.
I appreciate all types of input,
Jappse

Painkiller all the way. The Holy Diver isn't as 'chuggy' as the Painkiller (though it's still a bloody good pickup). I use a Painkiller in my Mockingbird which I use in my band. The tone of the mockingbird really suits the bands style as we're all heavily into Megadeth and the tone I get is some what close to the Countdown To Extinction tone. Great lead tone and great rhythm tone :D

I second the Painkiller

Painkiller

Then its the painkiller, if Tim doesnt say otherwise.
Thanks guys.

Oh trust me Tim will say Painkiller
:D

Those Holy Driver clips from Antag prove otherwise...

:) thanks OD
Because I don't yet have a Painkiller I can't argue against it. However, I don't think the HD would disappoint.
I just put one (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6308) in a neck-thru Jackson & it's transformed that guitar into a beast  Anyone who has this idea about the HD being some sort of mid-output rock/blues rock pickup is soooo wrong.
There's enough power & harmonics to play most flavours of metal with it. With a decent high-gain amp, you can get some crushingly heavy tones.

Also, I think maliciousteve has the "old" Holy Diver? (it was redesigned earlier this year, from 13.6k Ceramic to the current 16.3k A5) Might be wrong, but I seem to remember we discussed this recently on a thread somewhere?

You are correct mate.

So what is the tonal difference between the pickups, since they are both at almost the same resistance? Between the two, which one is best for solo, rhythm, etc. Where does the pickups excel?
This is a very shallow understanding of the pickups, but since its a BKP, I know ill be pleased whatever i choose.
I already am.
