VERY NICE !
But way too many Bigsby equipped guitars
-
I'm not sure you can have too many Bigsby equipped guitars.
Only dealing in cash makes me a little suspect, especially for the value of his collection. Either he's trying to dodge Capital Gains Tax like nobody's business, or he's upto some other form of mischief... *sigh*
*Rahnooo*
-
God, looks a bit like my place.
Only mine is more cluttered.... and my guitars are less valuable.
Why is he selling as a job lot, unless he's really bothered about eBay listing fees?
-
I didnt like that he didnt list and detail all the important axes
He's supposed to have Kossoff's LP - I think that would be worth a picture at least
If I had £300,000 I think I would want to know every last detail
-
totally ludicrous auction, which is surely not going to attract any serious bids, but may attract someone to get in touch with the guy. i actually find it a little odd that someone with such a collection seems to live in a small house with no apparent other luxury items. although the large collection of guitarist magazines on his bookshelf helps it look like he's a genuine guitsr nut and not just a burgler.
i do find myself intrigued by the SG in the first picture which appears to have 24 frets and a bc rich beast style head stock.
you'd think ANY late 50's/1960 Les Paul would warrant an auction of it's own. and at the very least an identifying picture?
-
Exactly - it's all a little bizarre! I think it's to attract attention to th eseller, who will then shift them off-line (if the collection is real...)

You just described an old mate of mine in Yorkshire. He's been collecting guitars since he was in his teens, usually in colaboration with his older brother. He's now in how mid forties and has a large collection of desirable instruments from the 60's through the 90's. He's never earned a huge amount of money, but he's got there by marshallng his resources and directing them. Hell, if they'd single mindedly played the stocks like they went after guitars George Soros might have been in trouble.
It happens.

You really would take the time to list them individually wouldn't you!
I've currently got a pair of jeans and some trainers on sale at eBay and I must've spent more time and care over the descriptions for them than he did all that gear!
-
He has a lot of low end stuff for sale there - like he runs a music shop
i was wondering which celebs hail from Sunderland area and have nice guitar collections
I came up with Mickey Moody (Whitesnake) and also Dave Stewart (Eurythmics)- both of whom were on the circuit at the same time as Free and Kossoff - in fact Mickey Moody used to be in a band with Paul Rodgers
-
hmmm, wasn't Micky Moody in some guitar magazine with his collection not too long ago? and it looked like a smallish house. and he has some very nice Les Pauls.
ye gads, inspector Feline may be on to something!!
-
Belgian Tom's Hattrick ?
EDIT for explanation : old Whitesnake track featuring Micky Moody on slide guitar......amused me that the seller is Tom's 19
-
FOR SALE ONE COLLECTION OF MAINLY GENUINE GIBSON AND FENDER GUITARS, WITH THE ODD JACKSON AND OTHER SPECIAL ITEMS.
Very Badly worded or an explanation? Mainly is a relative term...
-
I'd be wanting a blow-by-blow list of what is being sold - are the Gibsons REAL Gibsons? - specs? what years?
The real vintage gear there looks to be a couple of 60s SGs, a 335 and a 330.
Not sure about all the Les Pauls but if one of 'em was a 60's Burst then surely he'd be looking for £200k for that guitar alone.
I agree, something ain't right here - think he's lumping in a few vintage guitars with some tat and some nice 'new' guitars & hoping for the best.
-
well, i just got in touch with him about the V90 ;) i think its going to out of my price range though

Actually I've got plans to start making something similar after Xmas
Just taken an order for a 58 Korina replica, so I'm kind of fired up on Vs at present

You aren't making it easy for me to resist the temptation to enquire about a Feline Flying V ;)

I'm such a Flying V freak- just love them
So many of the bands and players that I grew up loving used them :
Kiss, UFO/Michael Schenker, Scorpions, Randy Rhoads, Judas priest, Metallica etc etc
I also loved Explorers, Firebirds and especially Iceman guitars (The KISS thing again).
I was hooked on Jackson Rhoads for a long time but came back to the old style V again.
Some Vs look better than others in my eyes and some look a bit poorly put together.
Personal Gibson faves include the original 58 with the square shoulders, Hendrix's V with the Trini Lopez Diamond shape inlays, and of course the V90 which has both.
Have a look here if you like such stuff: http://www.flying-v.ch/

i realy like Vs too!
the korinaV @ LGS was killer

Maybe it's just my overly suspicious nature, but am I the only one who wouldn't trust this Ebay mass sale of (seemingly) hugely valuable guitars, at least not with out recieving a hell of a lot more detailed information, such as where are various guitars which are mentioned but not shown, like the Jackson Roswell Rhoads?
Plus, £300,000 doesn't seem like that much when you look at what he claims he's got and consider that Music Ground were trying to flog a '59 spec 1960 Les Paul for £149,000 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1959-1960-GIBSON-LES-PAUL-STANDARD-SUNBURST-WITH-PAFS_W0QQitemZ160062296596QQihZ006QQcategoryZ33040QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.
Also, the whole idea of £300k in cash? That's a whole heap of money to be carrying around. I get nervous with more than £50 in my pocket.
I'm also just noticing the phrase '...before I leave the country...' Hmmm
-
not questioning your general suspicions, but it does show the Roswell. it's sitting on the other side of the tv from the Les Pauls.
-
Doh! You're right, it is.
To do list: Book eye test.
-
Just a note, this is totally legit.
I pulled this up in my shop and we've discoved this is a friend of a friend. The thread I put up with some vintage guitars in it- all belong to my collegues uncle. Who knows this chap.
It's really there to gather interest and encourage people to get in touch with him.
There's a couple 59 Les Pauls, so even them on there own and it's worth it...
-
Whatever his reasons for the sale, I hope it's not forced (tax bill, medical care etc). It would break my heart to have accumulated so many nice guitars then have to sell them... :(

Feline,
Indeed I'm a massive V fan too. I brought the Larry Meiners "Flying V - A history of this modernistic guitar" book - its very good indeed.
Agree that different Vs look better than others. Favourite of mine are the original '58, and some '67 Vs like the block marker and the medallion.
I don't like my Flying Vs in black usually, although I have a Epiphone Gothic with floyd rose, which I'm modifiying with gold hardware, and it looks very nice.
Not into the pointy Vs by other manufactuers, its got to be the rounded '58 or '67 style for me ;)
Bit obsessed about Flying Vs to be honest. I aspire to own more of them. I'd like a '54 style Les Paul Custom - but every single other guitar on my wish list is a V.
I just think its a completely amazing shape - retro and futuristic at the same time. and i'm totally convinced by the tone. its not just a metal instrument, but a totally versatile great jazz and blues guitar too.
We all know this of course ;) But I enjoy obsessing about my favourite guitar shape! Its perfect for playing on stage...
In a perfect world my dream guitar is a simple mahogany '67 style V, with a similar neck to my first Epi V, in white or red, natural neck, ebony fretboard with a set of riff raffs :)

Thanks, I'm looking forward to doing a few minor modifications and - eventually - getting some new pickups.
Once this Christmas nonsense is out of the way.
