I'm currently using a Marshall Silver Jubilee 2x12 combo. Am curious to see what other people are using as I'm kind of interested in getting another amp as I'm not too sure whether the jubille is quite the sound I have in my head. I think the sound in my head is more Boogie as opposed to Marshall...

Rivera R55.
Highly recommended.

Laney GH50L
Marshall 1936 Cab
Laney are amazing!!!
-
Mesa Recto-verb head (50w) with Mesa 2x12" cab (Vintage 30s)
Mine is one of the early 2-channel ones that had the cr@ppy "fade-in" effect on the channel switching. I've learned to live with it though, & as I don't play live anymore it's not a particularly big deal. I love the modern high gain voicing
-
Marshall JCM800 2x12 combo. Owns every other amp I've ever played hands down. It's a classic, and a great canvas for different overdrive pedals, boosts etc. Covers both vintage and modern sounds depending on what yu put in front of it
-
B-51 AT-212. Its awesome but it's too bright and I have the treble nearly down all the way. I need to get that adjusted because I can't crank the amp or mids much at all without it being too scratchy.

Laney VH100R
Marshall 4 x 12
and
Cornford Harlequin

Early 70's Laney Klipp 60w ( 100w version on the way shortly  ) and a Laney GH50L. Both run at 16ohms though a Marshall JTM 2x12 or 1960A 4x12. Both cabs are fitted with Celestion V30s.

I am currently using a Diezel Einstien 50w head into 2 x Marshall 4X12's with greenbacks in the top and v30s in bottom.
Also have a Soldano Decatone 100w but think the Diezel creams it in every way.

Been using a Randall Titan head into a slant Marshall 4x12 with greyback bass-cone G12Ms in the top and some HH V30-type speakers in the bottom.
Got a '76 Superbass coming tomorrow so I'll be using that for the foreseeable future with some pedals to juice-up the front end.

(2) 20-watt Crate Vintage Clubs with 1x10 in each
horrible-looking old Polytone Mini-Brute II for clean/jazzy sounds now and again
still regretting the poverty-mandated sale years ago of my old Laney AOR Pro-Tube 100w head with original cabinet (4x12 Fanes) --- weighed 16 tons and loud enough to wither crops when cranked but man what a sound!

Marshall JMP50 Master Volume head
Hughes and Kettner cream machine
Trace Elliot 2x12 with G12H30 Anniversary and V30 (a very well designed cab)
Marshall 1912 cab (increasingly not being used)

Marshall JMP1 currently through an old valvestate power amp with a zoom 9050 processor in the fx loop. All into a standard marshall 1960B 4x12.
Also now use a podxt to record with.
Don't really play with a band enough to justify getting a valve power amp but since I played my jmp1 through a TSL head cranked up I am more tempted to get one!
-
Ashdown FA60 2X12 (one of the original English made ones)

^ really? i find my MG250DFX mushy as hell! and the onboard distortion is extremely weak... its like taking zakk wyldes marshall sound, removing its balls, and making it incredibly weak. its a bit horrible. it also lacks in low end.
EDIT: it sounds good with a distortion or multieffects pedal into it on the clean channel, but it still isnt right... it is lacking something vital, which i can't put my foot on. it is present in Opeth's distorted sound though, which is why i like it so much.
-
Peavey Rockmaster -> VHT 2/90/2 -> Bogner Uberkab = balls that shake the earth I tell you!

well its just my opinion of course but Ive got a killer recording of me rocin out with My MG on max vol and it pretty much fills a 500 seat auditorium like it was nothing. I tune down to C# and C though so that helps to retain bottom end. PLus the clean channel is nice for effects like distortion n' such. Just cause its solid state doesnt mean it sucks. Its a perfectly well designed amp.

newbie here. i've been lurking for a while and finally got my sets of BK pups - a set of Nailbombs, a set of Rebell Yells and a set of Irish tours. The pups will go into an ESP Custom Viper, ESP Custom Ganesa and Fender Custom Shop Strat, respectively. My other guitars include a PRS Custom 24, a Guild S-100, a 1974 Gibson SG, a Guild Bluesbird, an Ibanez George Benson GB-20, a Heritage ES-335. I have a couple of fender basses - a 1978 PBass and Custom Jazzbass I made myself.
I've had a few amps over the years but these are the ones I have been using for the last few, in the studio and live. From the top: Mesa Boogie Mark IV, Mesa Boogie DC-5, Diezel VH4, Mesa Boogie Trem-o-Verb 100W head. I usually triamp live but I track eack one separately when I record. Thanks for letting me share.

Just what I was thinking. Surely that is too many amps for one person to own?!
-
Not quite overkill but they do all serve their purpose in the studio or in live gigs. IN fact, this batch of amps is the smallest I've ever gotten my collection to which is nice because I can get every tone I need for projects from them. I borrow amps I don't have as needed. I used to have several other amps but eventually sold them. They included a Soldano SLO100, a Randall RG100H (Dimebag Darrel's Pantera-era amps before he switched to Kranks), Marshall JCM 900, Marshall JCM 2000, VHT Pitbull. All of them were nice but as I played them, I wanted a more consolidated rig because they just took up too much space and som of the amps were not as versatile as I wanted them to be. Oh well...at least they all went to good homes:)
-
If my Mrs saw all those amps in our spare room I'd be divorced instantly. No trial separation, straight divorce. Shedding £200 on BKP's was bad enough for her!
-
Currently using a Laney TF300 120 watt combo. Does all I need for now, although a Mesa Boogie Road King head and cab would be the order of the day if my lottery numbers came up.

Dang, mate, I can feel your pain. Fortunately, I am not married and refuse to take cr@p from anyone I date about the things I do about music. I've been playing music for as long as I can remember so I can validate my music gear because it actually gets use. This was a point of argument with my ex-gf who had problems with my gear, my DJing, and the argument that I could do with one guitar or amp. Maybe. I always found it odd how she couldn't ever explain why she had 40 pairs of shoes in her closet. 4 amps versus 40 shoes - there wasn't much argument there:)
At least you got yourself some BKP's right? Hopefully the 'ol gal will warm up to em and say,"Ohh..you need to get more of these kickin' pickups!"

heh, same here - I'm constantly bewildered at mates that let girlfriends dictate how much guitar gear they have. It's different if you're married as the cash-pot is shared, but I'm still not the kind of bloke to be dictated to.

My response has always been...
"this gear all makes me money. Do you not want your holidays and presents?"
-
I agree with nfe.Over the years I am definately more than "quids in" and my gear, whatever it happens to be at any time, has paid for itself many times over. Fortunately Mrs 38th is very encouraging to the extent that she is still trying to get me to fork out on a Resonator.

Mesa Mark IIC+
and I'm waiting for a custom made amplifier 8)

Guess the reason I started this thread is I'm considering buying or swapping my Silver Jubilee for a different amp - I dont think it's quite the sound I'm after - dont get me wrong I love a Marshall roar, especially the Silver Jubilee / JCM800 series, but every time I hear say a Mesa I'm like - that's the sound I want!
Main reson I'm keeping the Jubilee is that they are becoming collectable... but I'm definatley considering a swap / new purchase - so finding what everyone else uses is great. Loads of variety on this thread! Keep 'em coming... my ebay searches have gone on meltdown since this thread opened...
-
i have the same feeling towards marshalls as you - it sounds pretty cool, but its not perfect. but when i hear a Laney, my mouth waters.

wow nice gear... but why do you need a rack that big?
-
Ive gotten a hold of a Genz Benz from arizona, USA. Usable for all kinds of music. Even had Jazz players playing on it, with their jaws dropping to their feet.
100W, four El34`s, 3 12 AX7, It has absolutely EVERYTHING your heart desires.

wow those videos for the genz benz blew me away!

wow nice gear... but why do you need a rack that big?
Why not??? :P :D :D :D
I record 100% more than I play live. I'm an insurance salesman. I don't move my gear very often.
-
Just using a Korg AX3000G at the mo. (sounds okish straight into the desk)
My plans are to get a Laney GH50L and 2 x 12 just after xmas!!!

Silver Jubilee 1x12 50 with Celestion Sidewinder and 1x12 Ear Candy extension cab (also with Sidewinder). I find the Silver Jubilee is very speaker intolerant, the Sidewinders really bring out the tone.
Fender Princeton II with Tone Tubby Alnico Hempcone
Fender Blackface Princeton Reverb
Lots of John McIntyre amps, Bluesbreaker, Studio 205, SP3 Prince O'Wails and the Lexicon Signature 284, to say nothing of the ones still at his place.
Mini Mat with 1x12 cab with Heritage G12M
Custom 5/8 watt amp which is just waiting for an EarCandy 2x10 cab.
Avatar 2x12 with Eminence Tonespotters and lots of other speaker cabs.
Trace Elliott BLX for bass

Atomic amp(is a valve front end without it's own voice for my podxt)

I use a Vox VR30 amp, it's a great sounding combo with a huge amount of BALLS, and I've not even modded it yet. It's a hybrid solid state/valve amp, and it's the best amp I've ever heard for £100. period.
I used to own a Fender Blonde Deluxe limited edition with a 12 inch Jensen C12N that sounded amazing! I should have kept it, but I owed my dad some cash. I shouldn't have sold it, still regret it to this day. It was beautifull.
In an ideal world I'd own an Orange AD5, the new Vox AC15 (with variable outputs), Dr Z, Hiwatt, Matchless, or a Mesa Boogie Mk III. I like the sound of vintage amps, especially low watt vintage amps.
For any of these amps you are looking at 4 figure sum, which I cant afford right now. I love Vox, Mesa boogies, Orange and Matchless amps over any others.
