Title: Stupid pickups.
Post by: Dom5412 on December 27, 2006, 05:50:54 AM
Ok, I've got problems.

I sent an email to Tim, but I forgot to mention a few things, and I'd thought I'd get a quicker response here.

I'm building a Les Paul. Just a solid slab of mohagany.

Anyway, I play alot of hard blues rock ala AC/DC or George Thorogood, but then I also play alot of Metallica-ish metal, and then again I play alot of post rock.

Help me please.

Whoah, sorry about that. I was really in a rush and really tired. Not a great combo.

I'm looking for recommendations for pickups.

I think the neck pup should be the hard blues rock/classic rock pup.

I'd like the bridge to have both excellent bass response for tasty riffage and chuggs, but the brightness of a single coil for a sort of Gilmour-ish tone.

A really tall order, to be sure, but that's why I came here!  :D

If it still doesn't make sense, I can try again!

Thanks in advance guys, I appreciate it.

Hard blues / classic rock Black Dog's rock.

although they wont be too bright as they have a bit of a mid range hump (hence why they do blues/rock so well)  so maybe something else is in order for the bridge  :?:

Rebel Yell's bright, tight and won't mush out in mahogany (might not have quite the bass response you want, though).

Then something warmer and more vintagey for the neck - Mule, BD?

Will your LP have a maple top?  That widens your options.

You know, it's amazing how many things change in a day or two.

I've decided on a set of Seymour Duncan Phat Cats. Now, before you all scream, "Traitor! HANG HIM!!!", let me explain.

My dad is basically getting me everything I need but I'm not going to take an unfair advantage of that. The Duncans sounded like exactly what I want, and at 180 American for a set, it looked the way to go. That leaves more than enough to get me a nice amp.

Rest assured that by and large, my loyalty is to BKP, and don't forget I have a fat strat to pump up sometime in the future!

Just wanted to pop in and give an update, and to say thanks for the advice guys. I really appreciate it!
