Title: Good Neck pickup (updated again!)
Post by: Crazy_Joe on January 02, 2007, 04:08:56 PM
Needs to be good at legato runs and tapping, i'm looking for a kind of Van Halen feel which can also do Hetfield kinda leads, though i'm not sure about the VHII because it's usually the bridge that does the tapping i thought?
However the VHII neck is good for cleans which is also what i need.

Basically i need:

1) Lush Cleans
2) Quality Legato & Tapping

Needs to pair well with a Ceramic Warpig.
I need like a Cold Sweat/VHII mutant.

I've read Tim saying that the Rebel Yell neck is a sort of cross between the VHII neck and Cold Sweat neck, but I've also read that the cold sweat neck is identical to the rebel yell neck. I'm sure someone will clarify.

See here (http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6467).  Not confirmed by Tim, but I'm sure the boys know what they're talking about.

Why do you want harmonics from a neck pickup?  :?

When you are soloing on the neck don't you use pinch harmonics?!

sife.. i guarantee you, with a BKP, if you at least know how to pull off a decent pinch harmonic, it WILL deliver.

i got a trilogy and it gets nice pinch harmonics.

when you get it, be sure to put up your thoughts, cos i'll be looking for one, if i get a HH axe :D

I generally don't use pinch harmonics much anyway (hmm, do I not use them much because I'm not great at them, or am I not great at them because I don't use them much?), but if I'm playing lead with the neck I'm generally not inclined to at all, as I think they're somewhat at odds with the tonality of the neck pickup. Also, I'm not denying that you can produce pinched harmonics on the neck pickup, but they're undeniably better from the bridge pickup.

True, and even my stock neck pickup now can get a pinch harmonic, so screw that idea.

This is true.... the Rebel Yells have awesome harmonics for sure, and the Nailbomb (bridge only, it's in a HSS guitar) also has sweet harmonics but with a different sound to them.

I'd think a VHII or CS or RY neck should do the trick for you.
