I can't be arsed taking them off and i think i heard someone installed theirs without taking the strings off, is this what most people do?
-
i put my BKs in without taking the strings off.
saved me a lot of time hehe
-
hahaha and I thought I was lazy!
I'd find having strings on would get in the way and make it hard to get the pickups in the slots. Especially as your explorer is hard tail its not exactly gonna be hard to restring it..
-
Yeah but if i use the same strings i fear they will snap when being put on, and then i will have to buy more strings which will delay clips!
-
Yes, I change strings at the same time as pickups.
Only time I didn't was for my Warmoth alder strat & it was an even bigger hassle than just restringing.
Why will restringing delay clips? (unless the only set of strings you have are the ones on the guitar?)
-
Dont you get free strings included with your pickup - no excuses now
I mean you seem to be selling the schecter because you broke a string
-
Oh bollocks!
Feline i just ordered another set of strings and now you have just told me i have wasted £5!
You should have got here earlier!
-
Well - put one set on the Explorer and another on the superstrat
All extra stringing practice!
Gets easier once you get the knack
-
Yeah but i ordered a pack before for the Schecter, i just ordered these for the Explorer, and now i have BK strings so i have 3 packs.
And i didnt want to sell it because i broke the string, i saw that Charvel and liked that one better, but then i brought a pickup so now im keeping it.
-
Well its not a waste - now if you break a string you wont have to sell the guitar ;)
-
Grrrr
-
it's always good to have spares anyway mate.
-
I always take the strings off before changing pickups. I might put the same ones back afterwards though.
If it's the first time I've worked on the guitar I usually do other stuff like shielding the cavities, tidying up the nut, cleaning the fingerboard, countersinking screw holes etc. I'm a bit obsessive about these things...
-
Well i had a fiddle around and i don't think it's going to happen with the strings on, unless i loosen them so much that they are about to drop off then tighten them back up and hoping they don't snap on the way!
-
If you are really careful you may be able to stay in bed whilst you change the pups-word of warning, don't spill solder on the quilt cover.
-
 ok enough of theese lazy digs!
I'm just trying to find ways to save time.

Kinda funny story - I was doing some soldering and for some reason I accidentally left the iron on my bed instead of on the stand. Anyway I burnt through the bed covers and a hole straight through the mattress

^HAAHAHA

OK, I'm lost now, are you still selling the Scheter or keeping it to put that gold 'pig into? :)
-
I am sorry my crazy friend but you did say how lazy you were. Now you should know not to give me ammunition like that.
-
& FWIW it's not a waste having some spare sets lying around. You'll use them eventually - in fact, you'll need them eventually.
I've just done a quick count & there are 27 sets in my tool box, + a few odd sets in various guitar cases, + several BKP sets (or Framus or whatever they are that Tim sends with them) in a drawer somewhere.
-

If someone wants the Schecter they can buy it from me, i don't mind whether i keep it or not.
The pig is going into my good old Explorer.
-
if you're putting a new BKP in your guitar then you owe it to yourself to put some new strings on - anything else is just being a tight-arse.
