Title: Riff Raffs - Touch Too Much
Post by: Twinfan on January 06, 2007, 12:14:40 PM
Found this knocking about while looking for something on my PC - thought I'd share it.

Apologies for the rough playing in the second solo...

Also found a bit of solo-ing:

Nice one(s) Twinfan !

The soloing was authentic and the Riff-Raffs sounded a little smoother than I had expected. I wonder if that was because they were going through a nice sweet Laney instead of a rather spiky M******* ? In either case I prefered the smooth (and therefore more 'soaring') quality of the lead tones using your rig.

It's a shame I do not live closer, as I would be interested to hear what you could make of a pair of (S.G. mounted) Stormy Mondays in that style. You have captured the Angus sound though, too many people tend to add extra distortion instead of just letting the pickups and valves sing. I watched some AC/DC on the TV the other night and therefore had a fresh reference with which to compare.

Nice one !  :D

Cheers FF - thnaks for your kind comments!  In the room the tone was much spikier, the condenser mic we used to record the band has smoothed things out a bit.  However you're right, Laneys tend to have a smoother sound (more lower mids and bass) than an 'equivalent' Marshall.  I used Marshalls for a long time and only recently switched to Laneys after buying one as a backup amp.  Ended up selling the Marshall to buy another Laney instead!

I'd love to try an SG with SMs to see how it would compare to mine.

Lost some porn huh?

Cool clips. It must be a helluva lotta fun to play in a AC/DC cover band.

BTW, I have completely nailed the Malcolm tone with my Gretsch and this amp setting: bass and treble on 12 o' clock and mids on 3 o'clock.
I'm using just a wee bit of overdrive.
