I've owned this Tele for 21 years (I'm the second owner) but now feel the urge to change to something with humbuckers.
Does anyone have an idea of what my tele would be worth? It's natural wood finish, completely stock eqpt., ungigged and in real mint condition. I've never seen a cleaner one this age.
Would eBay be a good place to sell - anyone have experience of selling a vintage guitar there?
Thanks for any advice.
Cheers.

No experience of ebay selling, but I like the sound of your Tele. Picture(s) eagerly awaited ...
By the way, would you be interested (geography permitting) in a 1976 Gibson S.G. fitted with a calibrated set of Alnico II Stormy Mondays ? I am also the second owner.
I am beginning to get the Telecaster addiction ...
:D
Regards,
FF.

You should have no problem selling your Tele on ebay as long as it well listed and photgraphed and you have reasonable feedback which I would view as at least 20-30 at 100%. Ebay is very good for sellers of guitars like Teles, Strats etc ie guitars people know a lot about. There are VERY few vintage Strat + Tele bargains on ebay as long as the instuments are well listed.
The main features to emphasize is that the guitar is original (assuming of course it is). To do a good job of photographing the guitar you will need to remove the neck to show the neck date, remove the pick guard to show that there is no routing underneath for a humbucker. Close ups of the neck plate, front of headstock, back of the control plate showing pot dates and unbroken solder are also very important is you want to get the best price. Most of all you need to make sure none of the picture give the impression you are hiding anything. If you are aiming to offer the auction to the US then giving the weight of the guitar (in lbs not kgs) and measuring the DC resistance of the pickups will help.
Regarding price, I would expect the guitar to go for up to around £1500 depending on originality and condition (although I personally would not pay this for a late 70s Tele). However ANY changes from original spec and the price drops very quickly. Check out other 70s Teles on ebay. You can get an idea of the US market for vintage guitars by going to gbase (www.gbase.com). Bear in mind that prices in the US are now higher than in the UK for many instuments!
Hope that this is helpful.
