Jesus and I thought the Fender repilca of Clapton's Blackie was overpriced. Well it seems Fender has done it again. This spring their will be an exact replica of Eddie Van Halen's franken strat guitar. The MSRP will be a bargain at 25K to 30K according to the latest issue of Guitar World. What's interesting is that Fender won't have their name on it. It will have the EVH label. Eddie will be running a company that produces amps, guitars, effects and such. Fender is the parent company but it's Eddie's to run. Expect lots more EVH branded stuff on the market soon.

Worst thing is that some sad ####!!s will buy it.

So how long till Eddie sacks himself, then sues himself for breach of contract ?
I think he should team up with Mr Wylde and start a brothel.
Perhaps a better way for Ed to make some money is to record an album ?
I like Ed but he really has misplaced the plot
Rob...

i hope ed releases some of his whacked out stuff, the guy has enough patents to his name.. he's invented loads of cool gadgets he's never released. he's a very creative man.
I don't see a problem with him making money from this stuff, but i must admit the guitar is over priced by about 18k....

yup very creative man.....just hope if he does another album it isn't another VH4

You mean VH3? Or Fair Warning? Agree on the former, definitely not on the latter!
Presumably this Fender/EVH news means Edward has ended his connection with Wayne Charvel? Or has Fender taken over WC's company as well? (Edit: I now realise the current EVH guitars are Charvels, not Wayne Charvels). I'm not sure I like the way Fender is becoming this huge multi-brand conglomerate - Guild, Gretsch, Jackson, Charvel, Tacoma, EVH. Where next?
As for the EVH guitar, there's something very wrong about the whole concept of making a $25,000 copy of a guitar that was thrown together from spare parts.

My sentiments entirely

This is bonkers. The orginal EVH guitar was a bitser. Apparently Eddie chiselled the pickup rout with a screw driver! Are Fender reproducing this?
The idea behind these sort of guitars is that the are "instant collectables" and will be seen as an investment. According to vintage guitar guru George Gruhn none of these limited editions have appreciated much in value, if at all, especially when compared with bone fide vintage instruments.
For 25k you could buy a proper guitar, like a straight pre-CBS Strat.

What a knob.

... Or a house.

That's a very good point, well made - how much more can a guitar increase in value if it costs £20,000 brand new?
And yeah, if I had that sort of money to splash, I'd be looking at 50's Fenders and 50's/60's Gibsons... not a chuffing new reproduction of a truly original guitar.
I love Eddie but man, he needs to down a pack of reality pills and stop endorsing the living piss out of his name.
Coming soon, EVH-brand underpants.

He should be releasing the cancer cure he claims to have invented. EVH-branded or not.
Although I read something about his "cure" being illegal in the USA, so marketing could be a problem.

Here's another replica. The Setzer gretsch Relic. I have to admit it's gorgeous but I would never buy one. I don't wanna play a replica of someone else's guitar. This one is somewhere in the $35,000.- range.

*Pretty photies removed*
Aside from anything it's a gretsch, and as such it will play like a £20 nylon string from argos.

I thought Charvel had already released one for a coupla grand, or am I getting different guitars confused?

No you're right. They're called the "EVH Art Series" and are available in white with black stripes, black with yellow stripes and red with black and white stripes. And there's also a "Hand Striped" series autographed by the man himself.
I thought they'd been built by Wayne Charvel (as opposed to Charvel the company), but looks like they're USA Charvels put together at the Fender factories in Corona.

There's a coupla things that bother me about this (aside from EVH attempting to bolster his fortunes even further): Firstly, you can already buy one (as mentioned above) and secondly, when they replicated Blackie they got the original guitar in and basically copied everything about it. Isn't the Frankencaster buried with Dimebag? How exactly are they planning to go about copying that?!

1. This new guitar is an exact copy of the Frankcaster. The Charvel Art Series were basswood not ash plus they D-Tuna's on them. They looked similar but weren't exact.
2. The guitar buried with Dimebad was the black and gold one what used around the time of VH2 not the original Frankencaster. So Charvel could copy it exactly. Then release it for 25 times what's actually worth.

Well agreed with former post that fender are buying up a lot of the guitar makes, not always for the better....I have a guild bluesbird beautiful guitar one of guilds great electrics.......but Now under fender no more, seem to do mainly accoustics...which are good but so where there electrics.
sorry and to get back on track why would you spend about 25k on a replica of a partster cheap guitar?
