In the latest issue of Guitar World Chip Ellis, who is building the Van Halen Frankenstrat relics, said that when the pickup from Eddie's original was put on a meter to get a reading there was nothing, no signal. But when it's hooked up in that guitar it works fine.
That seems odd to me. Any ideas?

There's a missing part of the coil that's secretly built into the guitar and only completes the circuit when it's been violently hammered into the body with wood nails? :D
