Title: Old Dog tries a NEW Trick...
Post by: Drac on June 30, 2005, 10:44:25 AM
-Confession of an axe-wielding windbag...
-I have rewired my PiggedVee, the "vorpal blade"...
 - in true  Drac-style,  I have changed horses mid-stream...
I experimented with several wiring arrangements when first wiring up my Warpig, trying them all all, albeit briefly, before going back to what I had before-
-Had a frustrating experience at full volume last tuesday night-
My axe sounded thin, and wasn't cutting like I had experienced at lower volumes ...it was the backdrop of drums, and the rest of the group that  motivated me to go back in...
- I rewired my axe the next morning as per the BK  schematic, in regard to cap value ( .047) and it's placement, with the inclusion of a series parallel switch before the volume control that I like so much-
problem solved, sounds great, because I trusted the recipe and stuck to it...
A bit of a leap of faith, if you think you know what you like...
Check out Tim's soundclips, & ye'll see he know what he's doing:
he's a shredasaurus, and if you have any doubts whatsoever about the end results of your installation of his pickups,  play it safe, and at least  TRY  doing it his way-He makes 'em, plays the hell out of them, and has R&D'ed these things extensively-I think you will be glad you did.
-Cheers, me bruthers...Drac

All my pickups have been 2 conuctor. There aren't many different ways to hook it up. I've had pickups with 4 conuctor wiring and found out I never use things like coil taps, phase switching etc.

Title: 4 wire option...SERIES/PARALLEL ROCKS!

Rat, I understand 2 wire setups if you always use more than one pickup,
agree that taps and phasing is not kewl for metal ( too funky for my bad taste!)-
but  the series/ parallel switching on a single pickup is awesome!-

If you prefer  ( like I do...) or only have a single pickup, ser/par.gives this two-pickup effect, and puts more sonic colors on yer palette...
I wouldn't  do without it , at this late stage of me life!-IT ROCKS ! ! !

have you tried it?-You can also install a 4-wire pickup as a two wire, by connecting the white & green, so it's free to try, right?-
-cheers, mate!-

My Fire Breather Mockingbird is a single pickup guitar (Warpig). I like the simplicity of it. The guitar is even more simplistic than Twilight's guitars.

On the other hand, I'd love a Mockingbird Supreme. No guitar has more switches n' stuff and somehow it looks cool like that. The DiMarzio's will have to go off course.

I wired my Nailbomb/Triolgy HSS set to give me all series options using the 4-pole 5-way switch.  This gives me no single coil settings though!  I am thinking of changing it a little to include a switch to change to single coil in the neck position.  I had to spend too much time figuring this one out though, too many wires and not enough tags  :censored:

Of my 4 guitars, 2 of em only have 1 pickup, and 2 of em have 2 pickups. I don't do coil tapping, series/parallel, or the like, so the hardest part for me has always been sripping the metal braid ... that stuff hurts when you prick yourself with a strand!!!  PDT_038

I only got 4 conductor wiring on both sets of BKP's because I might want to do the coil tap/phase thing at a later date. Now, I'm just happy with the standard wiring. I guess I followed the instructions (roughly) and it works. Saying that, I didn't install the Black Dog's, the shop I bought them from did it.

I have yet another old Ibanez, this time an Artist (think an SG with a maple cap) with the Tri-Sound switches for each pickup. These three way mini switches are set up for coil tap/phase/standard humbucker, though I do have to say that though the standard pickup setting sounds great, the other two suck. Great idea though.

I wired my middle irish tour and the north coil of my warpig out of phase by accident (or ignorance or whtaever). But its a happy mistake: I like it, not as a serious tone, but I do use it for contrast and colouring when writing/recording.
