I just found this on ebay, seems a bit too good to be true so it probably is, but I'm just checking. I've heard theres loads of fake SM57s on ebay, could this be one of them -

Any help is great, and the quicker I get a recording setup the quicker you get BK into Laney clippage :P

I thought that Shure and Audix were two different companies-I can't see why it would be Shure Audix but maybe they have merged or summat. I have no idea if that is genuine Tom sorry.

I thought they just put Audix to get more views when people search for audix instead? As its a power seller I think I may just go for it if no one knows, I'd hope they can be trusted anyway
edit - are SM57 and SM57LC the same thing? This is the cheapest uk price I can find (other than the ebay) but not sure if its the right thing http://www.imuso.co.uk/ProductDetail.asp?StockCode=ST00223

Yes, it's the same thing. I don't know what the LC stands for but the SM58 comes as an SM58LC (without a switch) and SM58S (with a switch). I think the LC just denotes that it doesn't have a switch and the SM57 is only available without. So, yep, that's what you want!

Ok thanks! Now I just need to know whether this ebay one is genuine as it will save me a few pennies so I can start saving for a half decent mic pre or something :)
-
The one on Ebay seems to me to be genuine, I bought one a few months ago from a different seller at even a cheaper price and thought it was too good to be true. I borrowed my friends, who bought his from a proper certified dealer and I tryed to see if there any differences in looks or sound and I couldn't find any at all. The auction that you seen seems to be genuine and there seems to be a lot of purchases from other ebayers already.
There is no difference at all between the SM57 and the SM57-LC. LC just stands for 'less cord' which means it's packed differently without an XLR lead. The two mics are identical.

Cheers, I just bought one of those from ebay! For the time being I'll be running it straight into my soundcard until I can afford some kind of interface.

Do you have a low impedance input on your soundcard? SM57's are low impedance mics and need a step up transfromer if you only have a high impedance inputs.

Ah, bugger. I have no idea, I'll need to look into it. Can it damage the mic or soundcard if the impedance doesnt match?

BOLLOCKS. Just got an email from ebay -
"Please be aware that the following listing:
Item Number - 280069867939
Item Title - NEW Shure SM57 Instrument Microphone Mic ~ Audix Shure
has been removed by eBay for breaching of one or more of our policies. Any offers or bids placed on this listing are now null and void. You don't have to complete the transaction. For privacy reasons, we can't tell you exactly why the item was removed."
Opening a dispute via paypal so we'll see how it goes. I hope I didnt just lose £50 :(

Its probably for keyword stuffing, by putting audix in the name. No reason for the seller not to ship the item though...
-
Yeah, they emailed earlier apologising for it, and it was just the title, thats never happened to me before though! Should be here tomorrow, although I have no means of getting it into my pc yet... or a mic stand
