If so, you might like these ;)
Ibanez RG550 20th Anniversary (http://www.ibanez.com/eg/featured/rg20th.aspx)
-
they look awesome!!!!
one thing though... the description:
"with the original Edge tremolo, the original 1987 neck dimensions, the original Edge trem..."
they run out of things to say or something?!
-
throw the $%ing black out the window.
where the hell is Loch Ness Green for $%s sake?!??
and i am very interested in these.. to at least see if the neck dimension is as i remember it.
-
I'm actually after an origional 550... all i've found so far is one in yellow! and very battered...
-
I've been after an original yellow with matching headstock for 18 months. Hens teeth and rocking horse poo are easier to find.
I've got a DSY and a RFR on order :D
-
How much are they?
I can't believe they didn't do a black with maple though!
-
£849 retail, and I got mine for £800. They come with a matching case and accessories. Check this out:

-
Damn, i can't afford one, well i can but they will be all snapped up before i get the money to buy one!
-
£800? jeez, that's a lot. and what's with the "rosewood" fingerboard in the spec list?
-
£800? I could find an original on ebay for almost half that.
-
Got to be honest, £850 retail does seem kind of steep.
I wouldn't buy one, but that's only because I wouldn't be able to play it properly.
Dunno why, but something about guitars like these turns me into some kind of inept, fret-mangling monkey. Give me a Les Paul and I'm fine again.
Still, I like the idea of a 20th anniversary model, if for no other reason than it stops Fender having a monopoly on anniversary instruments!
-

that was only on the Jem and it was limited to 777 guitars worldwide
-
Terrible ad copy ... they mention the Edge trem twice!! PDT_008

You try and find an '87 to '93 DSY RG550 in the UK on eBay. I've been trying to get one for 18 months and not one has been on there.
In the US they're $899 which is one hell of a deal. I'm paying UK price so I know I can get hold of them both.
-
Why two of the exact same guitar though?
-
Two different colours for collection purposes ;)
-
Fair dinkum, squire.
-
Ive ordered one of the DY ones! cant wait till i get my hands on it!
I shall get a picture of me playing it in a kilt as well... just to be wide
-
I want one where can i get one from?
-
I think the initial allocation to the UK is pretty sold out. I'd have a chat with your local Ibanez Prestige dealer...
-
when i talked to a dealer (last wedensday) he said there were only 2 of the 16 Desert Yellows left unsold that were comming to the UK. You might still be able to get one in RFR or black. Failing that import, like i am
-
Nice to see them back, especially with the option for maple fingerboards.
I have a black one with rosewood fingerboard that I got back in '88. In fact it was one of the first things I bought when I left school and started earning money. It's a bit 'cosmetically challenged' now, but still plays nice. Always wished I'd gone for a yellow one with maple board. Not paying £850 for one though, prefer my Strats nowadays anyway.

So you can only get one by pre-ordering? Bit of a quandary if you end up with a cr@p one. :?
-
Yup - but that's the way with limited edition guitars.
Or custom ordered/made ones for that matter.
-
the thing is though limted edition guitars usualy are good players no matter what. there not the usual production churn outs like everything else. It would be unlucky if you got a bad playing one

Yeah, I wasn't saying "you guys must be crazy" or anything like that. I'm sure they'll be mighty fine.
But you know how it is when you go in a shop and try 3 or 4 "identical" guitars - one always has a bit more mojo than the others. Although different players would probably disagree about which one had the mojo!
-
haha yea i know  the "mojo" thing is very true for low end guitars. Some Squires can be like diarrhea on toast while others can be really fun. Just depends on what you want and how it feels in your hands.
-
Where's the mother humping PINK?!?

Strat >>>>>> Ibeenhad!!!
-
Where's the mother humping PINK?!?
I believe that was a Jem 777 colour, like the green.
There should be a white maple-neck with a black headstock though, according to my 1988 catalogue. Maybe it wasn't available in '87.
-
It was, but Ibanez have chosen nt to produce that one.
-
theres 4!
four colours, Black, Red, Yellow and..... LOCH NESS GREEN!!!!

Pitty that, the green is so cool, and photoshopped
-
Oh the joys of Photoshop...

 could that be any more blatant!
-
I hereby throw my hat into the "phwoar, 550" ring.
-
Maybe they throw a spare edge in the hardcase for free?
-
I had an RG550. I always like how it sounded on recordings, always tight and defined. And the whammy bar was a lot of fun.
But I just couldn't get used to the feel of the neck and the Strat shape just doesn't fit my body frame for some reason. :( So I sold it.
But yes, they're good guitars if you don't mind these really thin necks.

They look really strange if you're short and stocky like me. Vai definitely chose the shape to fit his own frame!
-
Not the size but the way the guitar falls (due to the upper horn). No problems with many other guitar shapes.

you can still get the RG550MXX it seems. and ONE Ibanez JEM 20th
-
I'm surprised. I would have thought the 16 of each colour would have been sold by now...
-
Yup, I'm an RG550 fan and owner! I have a 1992 RG550 in black, with the Lo-Pro Edge and Seymour Duncans (They were in it when I bought it, honest!). I bought it off ebay for £200 as it needed some work doing (mainly just a lot of TLC, as it was all rusty and filthy). I was going to sell it on, but to my downfall I fell in love with it and it is now my main guitar.

When I bought it off ebay, it had been sat in its case in a loft for 8 years, so that explains the condition of it. The body and such are in incredibly good condition, but the neck is nice and worn (through to the maple in places) - which I love the look of. I'm not a massive fan of the new ones, simply because they aren't making that many. I love mine anyway, and it's got the nice old neck joint :)
-
That looks almost brand new! Done a good job there.

it does. top notch effort there at restoring that
-
When I got it all the screws on the pickguard were rusty, as were a lot of the ones on the bridge, and the pickup poles were rusty too. The paintwork was as you see it now, but just a LOT dirtier. I stripped it down into ALL its parts, cleaned them all, and rebuilt it back up to what you see in the pictures. I replaced the pickguard screws and the switch mounting screws as they were too far gone, and I bought a trem arm and a switch tip as they weren't there when I bought it. The trem arm cost £15 though FFS!!. Gave it a setup, put some contact fluid on the switch (pots were fine), put some vaseline on the knife edges and this thing rocks now, and stays in tune forever!
-
£800 is totally steep for an RG550..
I've got an original one and it's mint.. and cost me £330..
-
Which is exactly why i'm not going to even bother looking into them. My RG looks sexy anyway

mmm i wanna play ur rig!
-
Calum and Steves RG's are the only ones I've ever actually wanted :o They look so nice with maple fingerboards, and that cherryburst type thing looks amazing :D

My originals cost between £270 (for an '87 Road Flare Red 550) and £375 (for a Laser Blue 770DX). £800 is steep, but you can't get an original Desert Yellow with matching headstock in the UK as they don't crop up for sale. I don't NEED the new RFR too, but it seemed a shame not to have triplets
-
yes, £800 is alot of money thats why I'm importing. Getting mines fully shipped for a nice $900. You've gotta love the strength of the pound, almost half price comming in at £463.
Anyone got a confirmed date there out? All I can get it mid March :(
Now.. all I need to get is a decent amp to run it through...
-
That's the date I've heard for the US. June for the UK I believe.
£463 is a good price, and even with shipping/taxes/VAT added it comes in cheaper than the UK - I made it around £630 or so? I'm using my local dealer as I go there a lot and I want to support them, plus it's easier to chase them if something goes wrong.
Doesn't mean I'm happy with the overpricing though :(
-
I worked it to £557. £463 for the guitar and shipping, if the tax man gets me with the 20.5% import tax + handling added on its £557. That 20.5% is what my dad said it should be, then again he hasnt imported anything since the the early 90's and ive never done it before. It's a bit hit and miss but i should have enough cash stored away for whatever it comes to.
I support my local dealer store too, but they dont stock ibanez guitars, only the effects. I always choose my local store over the soundcontrol in my city. Costs me about a pound more for everything but the guys in there are great.
the over pricing for the UK is shocking. they should have charged the same amount for everyone, or at least as close as the could.
