Guys I'm in Tokyo at the moment, the gear prices here are AWESOME.
Brand new MusicMan Axis for 800 EUR
Brand new Epi Elitist for 500 EUR
Etc etc etc
Amps and FX are also dead cheap. Was in some shops in Shibaya, awesome !!!!
Oh no if only I knew whether I can take a guitar on the plane.
Anyways, I'm broke after my recent (VHT) acquisition. But the rates on US and JP gear here are great. Next time I will prepare and buy some stuff ...

Not your only concern unfortunately. Taken strictly by the letter of the law, you would have to pay import duty on any guitar you bought.
Good luck.

Actually the import duty into the UK from Japan is not much - 3.5% - but it is the VAT at 17.5% on the purchase price which makes a difference....
Just buy a really tatty case for it!

hey Hunter, how long are you in town?
By the way, be careful with the Musicman Axis, some of them are cheaper because they're made in Japan, same with G&L and even some Tyler models. Good guitars of course but maybe not quite the deal it first seems. Oh, and check out the price of keeley and MI audio effects, they are stupidly high over here. If you have time you should check out Ochanomizu, there is a huge street with mostly guitar shops on it. It's where I usually end up on my days off.
And Shibuya has some great guitar shops a pubs and, uhh, other things to see

Have a great time Hunter. I bet you get tempted and get something-surely a pedal or two.

Man I'm embarassed, Gingataff called and I was already asleep, at 10 something ... jetlag and stuff ... would have really loved to have a drink, but was just too K.O.
Meanwhile back, after a 20 hour odyssey and British Airways frustrations ...
