Title: RY vs Burstbucker pro's-wow!!
Post by: shaman on January 23, 2007, 10:09:18 PM
well, I finally got off early before wife and 9 month old-spent a few hours a/b'ing my LP Custom with ry vs lp standard with bb pro's...wow!!no comparison-the bb's sounded ok(have had it a week), but with a healthy dose of power tube the difference was so clear!the bb's sound unpotted(I know some of the b's are..nit sure about the pro's) the bb was sooo harsh sounding -almost painful-the ry delivered the goods at any volume-soo much "color" ..harmonically rich ..if you are  familiair with synethesia(sp)(seeing colors associated with sounds)it is the best way I can describe it-so balanced from top to bottom-it maintained its character at high volume and high gain settings(Boogie Mk IV)-this is so important to me bc every gig I play varies so much...
...now the fun begins again...the standard needs help...will it be the mule?a black dog??a painkilla'>>>WEEEEEEEEE!
-if you are going to get your ass kicked, might as well be from a pair of bare knuckles!

I played an LP standard with Burstbuckers about a month before i got BKP's and LOVED it - To my ear it was perfect - nice, powerful, beefyness with a beautiful top end.

I played the same one about a couple weeks after BKP's and i thought "cr@p, this tone is about as meaty as a frigging salad! Is this the same guitar?"

Ah, how Bare Knuckles spoil  :)

Nice! Glad you like the RY. If I had a LP with RY's, I'd either choose something very vintage (Mississipi Queens, Stormy Mondays) or very heavy (Miracle Man) for the other LP as the Rebel Yell is so versatile, it almost covers the entire musical spectrum. :)

I have my lp standard in the shop now getting fitted with RY with jimmy page wiring,  cant wait to get it back.  I decided i will get the mules to put into my Santana 3 to get more of a classic PAF sound.  I hope they sound good in the prs.

I was thinking Mules on a Les Paul for the best backup, then  Miracle Man because I believe  Tims clip is on a Les Paul. Then there is the Peter Green set which is a rare find.  Best yet buy 2 more guitars. Got to train the puppy to bring you the beer, not to drink it. Cheers
