A 5-way pickup switch on two humbuckers? How is it wired? Do you have any of these positions set as coil taps?
-
Typically it should be the other way around, as positions 2 & 4 are usually the coil splits. Depending on the switch though, it might be a PRS style wiring, in which case 2 & 4 might be HB with different coils from both pickups.
You need to look at the switch to see how it is wired.

position1 = both coils on neck pickup
position2 = both coils in paralell
position3 = all 4 coils from both humbuckers
position4 = the front cil from each pickup
position5 = both coils on the bridge
it also has a direct output switch that bypasses the tone, volume and pickup switch and runs the bridge flat out. (very handy  )
maybe just a duff selector?
thanks

Which colour wire did you put to each tag? The VHII is an offset coil humbucker, so it is not completely silent, but then you would hear it in all 5 positions. When you say pos 4 - front coil from each pickup, is that the screw coil from 1 and the slug from the other?
-
its the screw pole in the neck and the slug from the bridge. the screws are on the outside of the pickups if you know what i mean. thats the way the standard pups were in so im sure they are round the right way!
also i forgot to say when i touch the strings the buzz goes away. (bad earth?) when im playing it sounds fine but as soon as i let go you can ear the buzz. im only bothered as it only does it on some 1, 3 and 5 so i know its not right?
guess ill just have to keep playing :P

by the way what do you mean by an offset coil humbucker??
thanks
