He used a homebrew strat w/ bare knuckle vhII pup straight into a marshall plexi super lead circuit built using components bought from metro amps here - he bought the '68 board that george (metroamp.com) sells - and went from there - added a mercury magnetics output transformer - used the power transformer from a '74 Super Lead.

That sounds really good. Bainzy's VHII demos were awesome too. I think a VHII-loaded Strat is definitely near the top of my shopping list.
Modded Marshalls are definitely the way forward. The gain there is really clear enough to hear the personality of the pickup too.
