Exact replica of EVH's 5150 guitar, custom built from scratch by a luthier for £550, that is what he said to me, hmmmm.
Apart from the headstock it looks cool.
-
He calls it a Kramer several times, then he says it's hand built for him... I'm confused.
It's not a Kramer, or even a very accurate copy - the headstock shape is wrong (although the Kramer headstock was almost as bloody ugly as this one) and the end of the fretboard should be curved. So it's a copy, could be OK, could be rubbish - the Floyd looks pretty cheap.
You're not bidding again are you Joe?
-
Saw that, didn't much like the look of it. Especially when http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KRAMER-PACER-CARRERA-USA-1983-FLOYD-ROSE-SWAPS_W0QQitemZ180078766973QQihZ008QQcategoryZ2384QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem is in the same price bracket. If I hadn't already bought a maverick today...
-
Jesus, that headstock is the ugliest damn thing I've seen on any guitar in a long time.
As for the guitar itself, I'm dubious. As Philly Q says, the seller seems a bit confused over the origins of it - is is a Kramer, is it a custom? Rule number one as far as I'm concerned: If the guy doesn't seem to know what he's got, start asking yourself some serious questions as to whether you want to bid.
Also that whole bit about EVH's lawyers telling him to remove references to Eddie sounds a bit false. I'm having a bit of hard time believing that he'd honestly give two shites about someone flogging a Kramer-esque plank with a bit of gaffer tape stuck over it on Ebay.
I mean, it's not as if the guy is a business seller flogging fake Charvels at $25,000 a shot is it?

Haha no i think i'll pass on this one...

It probably is false, because it wouldn't be on ebay if ELVH corp lawyers had seen it - they actually do get fussed about people flogging this cr@p all the time. Besides, it's not the name they'd get him for, it's the stripe design which he's showing off with no apologies in the auction.

That's a hell of a lot nicer. Those early 80s Kramers looked cool, I never liked the banana headstock or the Jackson-style one with the big square logo.
-
I don't like that Kramer Pacer, it looks too new despite being a 1983 model, that has to be a refinish.

yeah whats up with that ugly-ass headstock, and the painted neck? eurgh!

Never believe anyone that says "the floyd holds tune perfectly"

lol tonemonkey

The more I look at it, the more I like it. The painted neck doesn't bother me - and though it's hard to tell from the photos, the neck looks good and fat too. Maybe it's the perfect Superstrat for people who don't like Superstrats!
If it was an auction with a low starting price I'd be quite tempted...
-
Been to the pub at lunch Philly Q?
-
Am I seeing it through beer goggles? Far from it, I'm as sober as a judge. :(
Is the Pacer really that bad :? ? Anyone else like it?
To make things worse, the guy selling the Pacer also has a Hamer Steve Stevens. I've always wanted one of those.
Shouldn't look at these eBay threads.....

What's bad about that?

lol i actually really like the pacer...

I knew I could rely on you Sambo, you have the good sense to like simple, stripped-down Gibsons!
-
:D
oh wait, edit:
you have the good sense to like simple, stripped-down Gibsons that nobody else seems to like!

All a matter of taste, innit? I'd rather look at a nice piece of mahogany (like my Pete Townshend SG) than an AAAAA maple top, personally. Some may think that weird...
(What did it say before the edit?)
-
Personally I really like the look of mahogany, but not on the front of a guitar. The back of my ravelle looks really nice, but if it didn't have a maple cap it'd be hideous. How fussy is that?
I think that pacer looks really sleek. I'd prefer the neck not to be black, but you can't have everything. Other than that, quite similar to a lot of current carvins (reminds me of these: http://www.carvin.com/gallery/guitargallery.php?ItemNumber=DC200). Simple, solid, sophisticated, but still cool.
edit - That said, if I was spending £400 on an ebay guitar, it'd be this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Maverick-Zebra-Streetfighter-Guitar-like-F3-F4-F1_W0QQitemZ180079604156QQihZ008QQcategoryZ2384QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I used to hate anything with a floyd, but yesterday I almost bought a vandenberg (did buy a maverick F1) on ebay and I've been scouring for a nice kramer for a while. Some time soon I'll start looking for ukeleles, probably.
I hate Floyds, and whammy bars generally (although I quite like the feel of the PRS trem). Even my Strats are hardtails. But so many people on this forum are into Superstrats, and they keep pointing out these crazy eBay bargains.... my resistance is starting to weaken....

.... but I can't imagine buying one of those! Floyd maybe, stripes NO! But maybe I'll say different in 6 months' time.
-
I was the same, but pissing about with that maverick is surprisingly fun. Don't think I'd go for a strat trem, though, for me it's still more of a fun jokey thing. Although I'll probably have a sodding bigsby on my "to buy" list soon enough...

+1 on that!
quilted maple just gets on my nerves lol...
flame can look good sometimes... if used in the right situation.
oh and before the edit the "that nobody else seems to like" bit, wasnt there... lol
