Title: Warmoth
Post by: samoth2 on January 29, 2007, 07:54:19 AM
One i start working again, i was thinking of making my own tele from warmoth parts.

But how is the quality of the bodies and necks?

I think it will be this body http://warmoth.com/showcase/sc_guitar_bodies.cfm?type=guitar&start=21&itemNumber=PT372&menuItem=2&subMenuItem=2&subMenuItem2=0

And then some sort of maple neck, probably one piece.

How does the hard ash body/maple neck sound? I would like a vintage tele sound.

I've just fitted a warmoth neck to my strat and i'm really impressed with the quality. I got the exact specs I wanted, at a great price (dollar vs pound helps). Highly recommended from me. I'm hoping to replace the body of my strat with a warmoth hollowbody later in the year too....

I mainly hang around on a guitar building site www.projectguitar.com. Although I've never used Warmoth myself I have heard loads of glowing reports of their stuff.  It may be worth having a look around there as there's some other companies mantioned too.

I have lots of Warmoth parts. I will never buy another OFR from them, but their bodies and necks are above reproach!

Sounds great.

And yeah, with the dollarprice it's a good deal to. Wouldn't cost anymore than a MIM tele.

A hard ash will be more of a 70's sound, the originals were swamp ash.  If you want a 50's sound, a set of Brown Sugars or Boss's will do it, for the 60's, look to the Yardbirds or Country Boy's. If you are going with a maple neck, you will have a brighter tone, especially with a hard ash body.  You could also look at the Piledriver for a Broadcaster tone.

Warmoth make very good wood parts, I have several guitars and even more necks.  I just got a strat one with the SRV carve, and love the feel.  I am thinking of getting a clapton maple to see how it feels too.

Thanks Phil, but i haven't even started thinking about pickups. It was mostly to see how much it would cost with parts.

If you want to build a Tele it's worth looking at WD Music for bodies and necks; I've used them as replacement parts for Fenders 'cos they're Fender licensed; they really are very good. You can buy a finished body for less than the price of a decent paint job.
