Just wondering if anyone has ever played around with their rig and bareknuckles to get the kind of tone that John Petrucci has been using the last few dream Theater albums? I was watching the "Score" DVD today and his sound is nothing short of beautiful! I've been messing around with my Pod too, to try and get close, but it's a bit of a vexer. :?
if anyone has a clip, that'd be cool!

Ah thanks man! I did have a gander at that a while back, but I was kinda more looking for the tone he has had for the last 2 albums. The opening track on the Score DVD is kinda the sound I was looking for.
Nice playing by the way, and you got the sound from that album down pretty good! :D

DT/Score friggin rocks, what a bunch of freakdudes. The instrumental bit in Octavarium in simply unforgettable.
Being a pianist as well, I disagree with Jordan's hand/wrist positioning, but WHO CARES, he rocks!
Yamaha Pacifica > Nailbomb bridge > Boss GT-8 > Roland Cube.
As sad as my rig may sound, it nails the JP tone very well, I'll have to record some with my mp3 player (The best recording gear in the house!)
I'm still having a crack at learning the Under a Glass Moon solo note-for-note, the semiquaver stuff is quite managable alternate picked, but the sextuplet shite is too insane for the moment, so I'm back to the metronome.
I'll get there one day.

I will second the nailbomb, I personally dislike petrucci's tone but I definately think that this pickup will be the closest to it. Basically his tone is a bit thin and most bare knuckle pickups are very thick, nailbomb has the most edge to it also.
