I know that the RG550 will be good, but the RG507 looks very nice too, i love the colour, though i don't know much about it. Is it as good as the 550?
By the way it's going to be my floyded 80's axe!
-
Wondering whether to wait for an rg550 with maple board or not.

do you prefer the sound and feel of a maple board ?
-
i got no experience with the 507 so i cant realy say..
but seeing the 507 has the edge (if the seller has real info) and the 550 (well.. depending if it's early or late 550, has the edgeII) i'd take the 507.. plus the color is better imo hehe.
i also personaly hate rosewood, so i'll put a +1 to the maple board rg.

haha, +1
also, I thought the 550 had a super-wizard, not wizard II? nice flame on it, though.
not familiar with the 507, i'd assume that if it's MIJ it's a similar quality.
really up to you, I guess.
-
If you want the 80s superstrat sound and feel, you'll need a maple board RG550, RG670DX or RG770DX. I have a few and they're superb. Just been playing some Van Halen on my 670 actually!
Pass on both those auctions and get this instead:
Used RG550 on Jemsite (http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57928)

Have to agree with you on the maple board, though my new child has an Ebony board and that is sooooo nice.
Rob...
-
I would love an RG770DX, but they never come up on ebay, the only time i have seen one was a few weeks ago but i didn't have the money then!
But yeah the 507 looks real nice however i did some research and i think it is a 505.
Proof is here: http://www.ibanezregister.com/images/images-rg/505/rg505-198int.jpg
The 550 on ebay has a lo pro edge and super wizard neck so i think in specs it is better as the 507/505 has 1pc wizard II neck and a normal edge.
But yeah 80's = maple board, though they are hard to find, and when they do come up they go for higher prices than the normal rosewood ones even though they probably feel and more or less sound the same.

indeed. ebony is soooooooooo smooth.
-
To me (anyway) maple boards feel completely different to rosewood. Also modern rosewood dosn't seem to feel as nice as the wood of times past.
I know I have said this before, but what you really need to do is to get out there and try everything you can find, and form stron opinions on what you do / don't like.
The shotgun method will cost you a fortune, try everything and buy the one you start to obsess over.
-
I like rosewood, i have no problem with it, it would be nice to have a maple board, more for looks than the sound to be honest.
The 507/505 guy said he would take my offer of £350 BIN, is it worth it or is it better to go for the 550 for £300 BIN?
-
Ebony,mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
ahhh the temptation....
the dealer for my RG20th is being a tool. Still dont know if im down for one yet. Need to wait on an email reply which was ment to be 3 days ago so im gettinh bit ancy....
The temptation to get that RG550 off jemsite is big, very big since its £350.
Must... resist... GAS......
-
I think it looks awful
-
nothin a quick paint job would fix
-
imo, it all comes down to the trem..
if the 550 has a LoPro, go for the 550 .. if it has the LoTRS, go for the 505
-
It is the lo-pro trem, though the 507 looks so nice in that colour. But since the 550 is better in specs and comes with hard case and is a lot cheaper i think i would have to go for that.
-
Hold up, he says it has a wizard II neck, though on the Ibanez Register site it says super wizard. I think he is wrong and ibanez register is right, did they even have wizard II necks back then?
-
no effin idea.. i think the WII got introduced after '97 no?
-
Got the 507 guy to realise that it is a 505! And also got him down to £330 buy it now. Hmmm it's tempting.
-
On the other hand i could just get this USA Gunslinger:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200072789698&rd=1&rd=1
Though i am reluctant to get it because the maple board looks a bit tatty.
-
GUNSLINGER!!!
-
GUNSLINGER!!!
+1
Or that Hamer Steve Stevens that Philly mentioned (well Philly did say he was cutting down on purchasing)
-
Gunslinger is SO tempting, i'm just wondering whether to do the buy it now or do it as an auction...
-

Oi! Hands off!! I saw it first!
No seriously, I'm definitely not going to buy the Steve Stevens. Or the Kramer Pacer. (Repeat) I'm definitely not going to buy the Steve Stevens. Or the Kramer Pacer. (Repeat) I'm definitely not going to buy the Steve Stevens. Or the Kramer Pacer. (Repeat) I'm definitely not going to buy.....
Aaaargh! GAS!
-
I think you should buy maliciousteves Mockingbird, because it's sexy.
Oh was that a plug?
That RG550LTD does look rather sexy though

I would but i think i would miss the neck pickup, that's pretty much the only thing it is lacking, and it has a painted neck.
-
By the way got the 505 down to £320
-
blasphemy - RG500's are supposed to be putrid colours....thats the point!
-
Argh it's so hard to choose!! I don't knwo which one to get out of the two, and i don't know whether to get one or wait for a better maple board version.
-
if you get any of them, you can send the neck to Cottam Guitars in the UK. they can replace the fretboard for another in differnt woods and put new inlays in(if you wish) They specify in Ibanez Jem/RG's but can do it to anything. He gets highly rated on the Jemsite webpage. Off the top of my head i think its about £200 for the fretboard replacement. Might be something to consider if you really want a maple board.

Nah it's fine with rosewood.
