What makes the Lo-Pro so much better/popular than the Edge? I don't get how it can be that much different.
Enlighten me!
-
LoPro = edge (with some modifications)
it's the LoTRS trems you got to steer clear of. cheap materials, cheap parts.
i broke the lower part of a LoTRS EdgeII (where the bar is inserted) off on a friends rg470. only time i heard/seen it happen. we took it to the shop and got the LoPro fitted, zero problems since.
-
Cheers for clearing that up, yeah i knew the TRS had a reputation for being shite, i just wondered why there was so much lo-pro love and not as much edge love, though when i played a lo-pro it felt perfect.

Amen to that! I had an RG470 for a year or so, and the trem sucks monumentally
-
the lo-trs is a piece of cr@p.
difference between the edge and lo-pro is that the lo-pro is low profile. it's mainly preference.
captain obvious to the rescue!

^

So, the Edge III (as featured on the RG trem models) is alright, yeah?
-
I've got RGs with the Lo-Pro and the Original Edge. The Lo Pro is less obtrusive and works really well. What I have found, for some reason I can't explain, is that the Edge "flutters" better. Whether it's the extra weight higher up that helps I don't know. It oculd just be that the Lo-Pro I've got is quite worn as it's on a well used guitar.
Personally, I prefer the Original Edge.
-
That's good because i just bought a guitar with an original Edge :)
-
Just bought a guitar eh? What you got Joe?
I'm guessing it's an Ibanez?

umm.. hmm.. actualy i havent played any new ibanez with the III trem, so i cant say anything about it really, but with the II being as it is, i'd say the III is one step lower.
made in korea piece of cr@p IMO

+1
I'm not sure if I've tried the edge III or not, but considering how good the lo-trs was...
also added to the fact that if they wanted to whack a decent trem in there they'd just put in an edge pro or original edge/lo-pro edge.
Ibanez have been gippy enough in the past to bear a watching, basically.

Hell yeah.

I think you'll find that after market TRS trems are a completely different animal to the OEM ones.
-
^ heh, yeah, I guess I'd better add that in in future, bob. The one I had stock appeared to be made from tinfoil.

lol exactly.
-
Well, that's a kick in the arse.
I've been looking at the lower RG models, like the 350DX and EX as a double-locking trem but an alternative to a chuffing annoying Floydy.
What would one of you Ibanez enthusiasts recommend then?
-
RG550 or above. Don't buy anything non-Japanese.
Simple :D
-
^ yeah. I think the 2003 470's had an edge pro maybe (limited edition), but I'm not certain.
but yeah, it should be good if you go 550 or higher.
-
If cash is really tight, try finding an RG470, not korean version though the japanese version.
But there are loads of older jap models going on ebay every day.
-
^ i'd actually advise against that, even though it's MIJ, the stock trem is still poor- it'd be actually cheaper to get a 550 (more than likely), and then you wouldn't have to fork out for a new trem.
not to mention that the lo-trs (unlike the lo-trs-2 on the korean ones) has the wrong size studs for a direct swap with an OFR, you'd have to do a little drilling too.
-
If he has enough money now there is an RG550 w/hard case for £300 buy it now on ebay.
-
^ yeah, i mean the 470 went for about £400 new, i'd guess you'd be doing well to get one of them for less than £200... add in a new trem, and you're over the price of a 550. Not to mention the hassle of trying to get a trem to fit. EDIT: and you don't get a hard case.
:drink:

$%! I don't... unless someone wants to buy my Tokai SG for £300 right now? :D
Cheers for the advice chaps, I'll keep that in mind - anything lower than a 550 (preferably an older one) probably isn't worth bothering with.
Much obliged.

What about the ZR trem on the Ibanez S series?

I have a S470, and i love the trem. I haven't tried many others though, but it stays in tune for a long time, no matter how much you abuse it.

Nice one, cheers amigo. 8)
-
No problem :P
In general the guitar is really nice to, i especially like the thin body. You should give it a try.
-
I havn't played the ZR but most people say that it is the best trem money can buy.

I have one on my S1675FM prestige (in my avatar). I love it. it's a very very nice tremolo, with a fantastic action, very adjustable. Only thing i don't like about it is that it has SO many features...mine has a d-tuner on it aswell, which is something that isn't on any of the other guitars. There's just so much you have to set up on this trem, but once it's done it is nigh on perfect.

i wouldn't go that far, it depends what you want it for. another thing to consider is that on the thin s guitars, it doesn't have as much up-pull as you might expect/want.
