Title: BADGBE
Post by: BloodMountain on February 05, 2007, 05:48:17 PM
what a tuning! it's mastodon's tuning just 1 step up (they tune down).

you can play mastodon classics (Iron Tusk, MOTFA etc.)

and you can piss around writing cool riffs

i suggest trying it, and add full distortion for best results!

i used to do a weird tuning on my sg

drop the E to a D, then drop the (now) D and A another whole step.. so that makes for umm.. CGDGBe

sick tuning to fool around with, riff vise.

wow thats really cool! i use an SG for weird tunings too, great guitar  :)

with CGDGBe, if you play a doublestop on the 4th and 5th strings, it makes a powerchord  :)

awesome

Some Soundgarden is in drop B I think ... and Gasoline by Audioslave. It is indeed a mean tuning, and  now you have reminded me of it I must go immediately and try it with my new Warpigs  :guitar4:

Tom Morello uses that tuning occaisionaly. I posted a crawler clip in that tuning a long time ago.

You can also do Seven Nation Army in that tuning and send your bass player home.

Yeah, it's used on a few Soundgarden songs off Badmotorfinger:  Rusty Cage and Holy Water  8)

Audioslave used Drop-B on "The Worm" too and Silverchair used it on "One Way Mule". Class song.

You can also further drop it to a Drop-A like the Foo Fighters song "Stacked Actors".  :D

EAEGBE...A great tuning for Barre Chords, puts a new spin on them

Another few cool tunings:

like the drop B one from BLOODMOUTAIN's original post but you also drop the A to G so it ends up: BGDGBE, which is the tuning for Tool's Parabola.

Speaking of Silverchair, ever tried Emotion Sickness Mr. Ed (I think its) something like: Db-Ab-Db-Ab-Db-Db

Straight Drop A you can get Muse's Citizen Erased: AADGBE (Yes I know it's originally on a 7 string but you can get away with it like that)

and finally I used to use a really simple open chord tuning: DADADD

Yeah, it's a right cracker... they have another one for Without You that's something weird too. Actually, that's just DADADD which is the same as Goo Goo Dolls use for "Name".

One tuning you must try at least once in your life is the open G tuning.

DGDGBD

Keith Richards all the way.

You can use the tuning Devin Townsend uses CGCGCE (low to high) or if you have a seven string just tack on a low G. It's most metal.

Yeah it saves people the bother of actually learning to play, it's brilliant

Hmmm was that scarcasm or not ?

You mean like Jimmy Page? That's where Devin got the idea from. I like for the shear sonic range.  It's like Drop C but you get to keep the high strings. \m/

Im quite aware of the uses for drop tunings thankyou very much, having spent so much of my younger years with (good) folk players & slide players.

I have nothing against a fat ass sound, or downtuning though in all honesty it got tiresome very quickly, and more so after several years of being recycled.

My beef is with the 1 finger wonders (I think that was obvious from my comment), if you want to take that out of context thats your perogative

hmm i see now where your coming from. i'm not going to use that crazy tuning, but i was just saying for Meshuggah type chugging, it would be ideal.

im sticking with my OWN tuning, which is great! it's drop B crossed with E standard with an extra E:

B F# E G B e

BTW the comment wasn't aimed at anybody here

I just dislike the generic stuff that was trotted out for the last few years usually by US bands.

At the start so called Nu metal could have been something, but the record industry suits got a hold of it. then it wandered up a blind alley, hopefully it got such a severe beating it won't show it's face again !

You don't always have to like a band or piece of music to appreciate it (though it helps)
