Stunning album!!
It still blows me away just as much as when I first heard it about 7 years ago. Great playing, great tone, great singing and amazingly well written songs. I can't stress enough how great this album is. I recommend all the young guys on here (Tom, Sam, Joe etc) to give it a listen, you won't regret it.
Anyone else agree?

I remember when it came out (Tommy Vance RIP was really plugging it on the Friday Rock Show) but at the time I couldn't listen to Queensryche as I thought Geoff Tate was trying to be a characature of Bruce Dickinson, but with time and hindsight it may be worth re-investigating.

I remember Friday Rock Show, I used to watch it every friday night on VH-1 when they showed it from 12 Am till 6 Am. I used to make myself stay awake and watch everything :lol: I learnt about alot of cool bands that way (Metallica, Megadeth, BLS etc)

It was on tv? The one I remember was on Radio 1 at 10pm til 12. I guess it moved over to cable once it got kicked off the radio. It was absolutely essential during my teens, and Tommy Vance was a god. I remember when he played Steve Vai's Attitude Song followed by Erotic Nightmares from the then still unreleased Passion & Warfare, I thought my speakers were going to melt!
I taped a live WASP gig from the Hammersmith Odeon that they broadcast, I think I wore that tape out :D

i've got the Operation: Livecrime dvd...
watched it once ages ago, didnt think much of it... was worth £3.99 i guess...
may dig it out again for another go!

Listen to the studio album and get into it and then watch the DVD again
The live performance and production are incredible
Operation livecrime is one of my fave live DVDs and the standard of the musicianship knocks me out time after time
Also makes me realise how integral and important Chris De Garmo was to their sound (both guitars and backing vocals- he has a lot of high end in his voice) and why I haven't liked the new material without him nearly as much
I was into Queensryche from about 1983/4 when they released Queen of the Ryche EP on an independant label and they just got better and better.
I lovedtheir second LP: Rage for Order - a very quirky album but worth the effort.
However When Mindcrime came out it was just brilliant and became a staple of my listening for a long time.

Agreed, although I think the band was already starting to lose something before he left. Empire was a bit of a disappointment.
Mindcrime's a great album, but I wish there was an option to listen to it without the "story" bits...

I loved Empire
Was very commercial but had some great tracks on it
I also found that Promised Land grew on me and then I loved it to bits
loved the way it dealt with how fame and fortune isn't always all its cracked up to be
Hear in the Now Frontier was a bit weak and uninspired

I first heard "Eyes of a stranger" on the Friday rock show (yup the proper one on the radio).
It blew me away and I bought Mindcrime the next day..
Everything seemed so cool and exciting back then. For a couple of hours every week I would listen and hear all these fantastic rock/metal bands which would take my tape (yeah TAPE!) collection in a whole new direction.
I think now you have a poverty of riches in the media - you want to only listen to or watch rap videos all day - you can - you want to listen to any genre - you got it! It just seems that in each genre the quality is watered down as a result and the listener just never gets the chance to expand their tastes
I remember buying "Livecrime" in the limited boxset which cost a fortune to me back when I was younger. I loved it and I think that the live CD it came with is even better than the original.

Friend of mine had Queen of the Ryche when it came out. Mindcrime was a pretty cool concept album. Never became a big fan or anything, but they're worth checking out. 8)

I agree, the Friday Rock Show was a real "event" for me every week. I'd sit there by our big old stereogram (yes, it was 1979 but technologically our house was still somewhere in the late 60s) and write notes on every track I heard. :oops:
The other great thing about the Rock Show with Thomas The Vance/TV On The Radio was that every show had a couple of studio sessions - one by a new band (including some great NWOBHM bands who never really went on to bigger things) and one from the BBC archives, which would include heavy rock but also arty prog like King Crimson and Van Der Graaf Generator, and even jazz-rock like Hatfield And The North and Back Door.
They were great days!! :D

No, they were really good notes. :wink:
I suppose I could have catalogued everything on the first year or two of the Friday Rock Show (I gave up the notes after a while). Might be interesting to someone, but I don't think anyone would be interested in reading my highly insightful analytical comments ("sounds a bit like Angel Witch").
