Title: Heavy distortion straight into the desk

Hello one and all,

As I can't squeeze my 5150 and 4x12 into my tiny studio does anyone have any good recommendations for direct into desk disotrtion units.  I tried the POD Vers2 & XT but was not happy with the results, any thoughts?

Ello chum.
Bit surprised at the Pod not getting you into the ballpark...you tried its "Insane" patch?
 Thinking of it, the Behringer V-Amp2 is much cheaper: though its noise floor is higher and doesn't do cleans very well, I was and still am very taken with its distortion patches; the recto is excellent IMO.
  Hmmm...just a thought too: if using either of these, make sure the unit knows whether its set for "Studio", "headphones" or "live". I remember being decidedly naffed off with the Pod's sound until I realised the fizziness was the result of it believing it was in a live setting, when it should have been set for headphones.

Digitech Death Metal pedal with the 'mixer in' hole rather than the 'amp' hole plugged into the board?

I'd rather use the Digitech Grunge for that. I got both the DOD Grunge and DM, and if they can be compared to the Digitech one, the Grunge offer better crunch. The DM is more all out distortion and it needs some tubes behind to sound good.

Tried the Digitch Death Metal, wow, it was great plenty of grunt although a bit noisy.  I will try the gunge to

I have recently got hold of the Vox Tonelab,its great. The most natural one i have heard yet.

the Behringer GDI21 is a direct inject thingy that can be used for straight into desk recording. if the v-tone modeling on that box is the same as the v-tone modeling on my GM108 practice amp, then you can achieve HELL!!!  :twisted: seriously! it is a HUGE heavy tone! but i would recommend trying before you buy, because i don't know if it sounds the same as my GM108.

I think i love Behringer stuff :lol:

or if the GT2 is too expensive, why not get the Behringer version (GDI21)? im getting one just for kicks and a better clean and distortion tone.... at £26!

I scored a used GT2 pretty cheaply off ebay a year or so back.  Good unit.

(Though its primary use ended up being to warm up the cruddy little combo thru which I was playing my bass live! :))
