Always liked Testament, but they sound even better live, check out this recording of Souls of Black. The solo from Alex Skolnick is amazing!!! Such an underated guitarist.

Skolnick is a fantastic player, his solo on Return to Serenity from The Ritual is one of the best I've ever heard - melodic, powerful and highly technical.
-
i love the solo to Hatred's Rise.... cool scale is used, and sounds badass at the same time! that song is just awesome...
-
always liked Testament - one of the under-rated thrash bands and they still sound GREAT. wish I had've got off my arse and travelled to see 'em now, never did get to see them in their prime.
Live At Eindhoven was always my fave disc back in the day - still got all my Testament vinyl :D
-
I saw them once with Steve DiGiorgio on bass....now that was cool!
-
Unless I'm mistaken, that's from the "Live in London" DVD which is well worth buying.
I've always liked Testament - I first saw them supporting Anthrax on the "Among the Living" tour in '87, one of the better thrash bands IMO...

Testament is my favourite thrash band right after Metallica
and Alex Skolnick one of my biggest influences, his legato playing style is awesome, just check out the song The Legacy off Souls Of Black album and listen to all of the solos
-
My fave solo is over the wall, very cool playing indeed.
I do like Testament but I think they lack the catchy tunes which Metallica and Megadeth had which is why they never got that big. The song "Master of Puppets" in my opinion is what thrash is all about, the closest Testament would come to such a great song would be "into the pit"

My band was one of the headliners for the Louder Harder Faster festival last year, on the same day as Jag Panzer. (We went on right before JP) The night after us, Testament was the headliner, and we got to hang out with them at the hotel. (There were a lot of shennanigans going on that weekend ... I'll post a couple of pics soon) Anyway, Chuck Billy & company were great ... very down to earth and just plain fun! And they slaughtered when they played live that weekend!!
-
Oh, yeah, I also forgot to mention that Skolnick lives 10 minutes from my house, and I run into him with some degree of regularity.

You lucky bugger heh.
Testament are one of my favourite bands, Alex Skolnick has a "betcha can't paly this" section in Guitar World, which has some really cool licks.

Lucky! I would love to meet Testament. You should ask if you can go to one of their shows and play with them on a song or something hehe, that would rock!
Maybe Alex will be generous enough to let you play a solo on the new Testament record!

Well I would ask if I could have their gear :D

My fave song is Trial By Fire, I remember buying the 7" single back in the day. For me it's got one of the really great thrash riffs. Skolnick's solo on the re-recorded version (First Strike Still Deadly) is amazing, he slips some Pat Metheny phrases in there as well and they work really well.
-
I was at that show! :D You can even see me in some shots on the DVD.
-
That was pretty cool - solo was pretty tasty
I saw testament at the Astoria way back in 1988, but haven't followed their work as such - nice to see how they are now
