Title: New PRS models
Post by: hunter on February 15, 2007, 09:47:23 AM
I really like the SE hollow as well as the LP Junior clone.

The SE One with BKP-P91s or the SemiHollow SE Custom with Rebel Yells will kick ass for sure!!

The new Tremonti Sig looks good, and the Johnny Hiland one is pretty cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9imuLRcCEI

The Johnny Hiland sig looks and sounds great, from the review in Guitarist this month.

Not that I'm ever going to spend that kind of money on a guitar, unless I wake up one morning and find I've magically acquired the ability to play like a cross between Marty Friedman, Roy Buchanan and God.  :?

To me it looks like PRS is becomming just another mass market guitar brand.

Too many models with too many variations and too many signanture models of guitarists I never heard of.

Sorry.

Maybe you've never heard of them because you're into Rockabilly?
PRS have been a mass market brand for a decade, they still make nice (if slightly overpriced) guitars though.

Interesting you mentioned that.  As I was looking at all those new guitars I was thinking by golly, there are a lot of different PRS models nowadays.

Not that choice is a bad thing, but it does seem to dilute the strength of the brand image a little, for some reason.  I get irritated when I look at the Fender website and there are 50-odd different Strats, especially now they no longer seem to state the country of manufacture (the same when I was looking at BC Rich yesterday).

I suppose at least the whole PRS line is still based around 2 or 3 body shapes and proprietary pickups and hardware.  If they ever start offering Vs or star-shaped guitars with Floyds and Duncans they'll have really lost the plot.

No mention of the new Paul Allender PRS sig?

looks lush to me! bit too overpriced for an SE Custom style guitar though, i spose your only paying for the Bats and the Dark Purpleness...

I'm elderly, the bat inlays and gold h/w aren't doing it for me.

Quite like the colour though.

In a strange reversal of fortune, that Semi-hollow SE looks to me like a PRS rip-off of the Eggle Wave...

(In which case, BKP-91's would sound incredible in it...)

What the F**k are they doing with all those goddam BATS!

I really love the colour and would really consider getting one if it didn't have those STUPID BATS!

I remember having a chat with one of the guys in SOHO Soundhouse and he was saying that they had tons of those cr@p Billy Martin SE models left and going dirt cheap because the bloody big GREEN BAT inlay at the 12 thru 14 fret...

Will they never learn?

the Billy Martin bat is completely different to the Paul Allender bats. for one, the BM one is a cartoon with gay looking eyes, whereas the PA ones look more real. another thing, the BM ones are a sick GREEN colour whereas the PA ones are a nice standard inlay colour.

I'm with Afghan Dave on the Allender bats.

I'm in the market for that type of guitar, and I would seriously consider buying one (I already have an SE Singlecut) if it didn't have those daft bloody inlays. I play rock and metal, but also a fair bit of blues, and there's no way I could pull that out at a blues jam. It's a shame, because the colour is lovely. I just think the bats spoil it.

Post by: BloodMountain on February 18, 2007, 10:05:31 PM
well, sorry, but that guitar just isn't aimed towards a blues player. it's an Extreme Heavy Metal band's guitarist's signature guitar. therefore it must look like a metal guitar and appeal to the fans of CoF and other similar bands... or it wouldn't sell as well to it's intended end user - a metaller.
PRS know that people who like cradle of filth also like dark purples and bats and gothic stuff like that... so they put it on the guitar to suit the end user's needs...... and to an extent, to get them laid with a goth of the opposite sex. perhaps. you get the idea anyway.

been thinking about obout one of these

there is just "something" not turning me on. I think it might be the lack of pickguard?? I dont know. But I would much rather one of these than a gibbo. But my mind isnt made up yet.

Yucky paintjob on that one.

But I agree, those PRSs are lurvely.

I personally am not a big fan of the PRS singlecut, but strangely I do quite like the singlecut trem (although of course the difference goes beyond just the trem). For high end singlecuts Hamer or Dean make fantastic examples, and of course our very own Feline makes what appears to be the perfect Les Paul for the price of a Gibson Les Paul Custom.

I still don't understand why they're called Customs when they are _FAR_ from custom >_>

all in all not a good photo.... I cannot find a single good photo of a royal blue single cut. That guitar actually has chrome hardware and has beautiful flame top maple cap and "natural" binding.

oh well... this has been my problem for any guitar I'm looking at in the last few years.

haha, I'm not elderly and I still think bat inlays are the ultimate in lame on a guitar.. or anything really. Seems like something poser emo kids would buy in an attempt to look "metal"

I only like gold hardware on a black guitar, but prefer silver/nickel really (though my LP custom has gold tuners, bridge and tailpiece   )

Gold hardware on a black LP Custom is cool.  Or Richie Zero's ES-347, which looks absolutely awesome.

I just think it tends to look a bit cheesy with most other colours.  And I don't like the way the gold plating wears off.

My work have piles of them sitting around too. Admittedly my wrk owns Soho Soundhouse though...

But yes, if I had a pound for every person that has walked through the door seen one and said, "what the $%&# is that?" I'd be a wealthy man.

Though not as wealthy as if I had a pound for everyone who's said the same in the last week about the new Les Paul BFG's.
