Edit - I've added a poll, as some viewpoints may be worth sharing before we go to press
We've been at it again !
We hope to have an addition to the Feline Strings range with the release of the 11-48 set - in time for the London Guitar Show
There is a dash of Spinal Tap influenced humour in there as well
Here's a sneak peek at the artwork
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v662/felineguitars/Feline%20strings/feline11-48.jpg)
Sort of fit's in with the rest of the range

Hopefully we can get some t shirts done as well

Very good Jon
However, I do have one question: What's the point of 11-48s? (who actually uses them?) - only use I've ever found for them was to combine the top 3 strings with the bottom 3 from a 10-52 set & vice versa to give me a set of 11-52 for drop tuning & 10-48s for normal tuning. Any plans for a monster heavy gauge like 11-56 or 12-60 or something?
-
very cool! i like trying different gauges.
on the subject of that exact same humour, i just did a French essay in school, and it was on your favourite hobby, and while describing my amp, i thought i'd slip that in in French!!! is it "monte a 11!"? hopefully that's right.....

Good point there George
We sell quite a lot of Power Slinkys, so it made me think about going that route.
But a 48 does seem a bit light for an 11 set when a 10 set has a 46
I've added a poll to see what folks think
I may just plump for a 50 rather than the 48
A 48 may be a bit light if you do a drop D
I agree that a set running 11/14/18/30/42/52 would be better for playing D with a drop-C, but I tend to question how many players play detuned that far
I know you like your heavy stuff and it is still in vogue to detune a few years on from when it started being a trend
Even Europe who I saw last night were tuned down to B for some songs
But I think that most players I see in the workshop tune to regular or maybe down a semitone or simply a drop-D.
But I'll let the poll run and see what the BKP faithful have to say for now
-
the 10's i bought last year were really effin good!
and the artworks are AWESOME!!!
i only have extensive experience with daddarios, so i think that's the one i'd use.
10-46 i find are pretty good for drop-D and Eb tuning, but for anything lower you got to step it up a gauge. so for me, tuned in D and do drop-C on a 11-48 set would be feasible, but others may want a tighter C.. so 50 would be ideal for that... i think.
i'm not realy the one to ask. lowest i go is Eb :P
-
I always use Power Slinky's on my Explorer.
-
I voted the D'Addario because I do use them on some guitars but I change the G to a 17. Just my preference (I also like 16's on a 10-46 set).
-
D'addario for me, but that's only when playing Standard (funnily enough), if I were to downtune, then it would have to be 50 and above.
-
D'addario here also. Feels just right with standard tuning. I wanted to try your strings, but you never had a set of 11s so far. I'd certinally give them a go.
-
If people buy them then fair enough.
My comment was more about the balance of the set than the particular gauge.
As you know, I like 10-52 (tuned to Eb) on my Les Pauls - hit the the low strings hard for riff playing, but still like a loose feel on the top strings for lead work. Using 11-48 seems to me like going the other way - i.e. heavy top/light bottom - if there's a market for 11-48s then why not 10-42s or 9-38s? Also, I find bends hard work with 11s @ normal tuning - perhaps I'm just a wimp
-
Wow, lots of D'addario players in here! When I use D'addario's for 10 minutes they are already totally raw, and dark brown rusty :D

Your point is totally valid George
It's one of the reasons that I thought I would ask the BKP gang what they thought.
Opinions are varied on the subject with some regular players liking the 11-48 and other liking the bass strings to be heavier
As a matter of interest 10-52 is a rather unbalanced set as it uses the bass strings from a set of 12s and teams them with the trebles from a set of 12s
Another hybrid set that I have seen is 11/14/18/30/42/52 which is like an 11s/12s hybrid set
Power Slinkys are the best seller followed by D'addario - probably due to beingthe leading brands and the amount they spend on advertising
It is possible to endlessly go on and on with variations for different playing tastes and have dozens of different packs available, but that is not practical
So I'll continue to gather opinions before making a final choice
-
I have D'addario 11's on the Firebreather Mockingbird. They don't flap around with lower tunings and are still quite playable for standard tuning.
-
Oops- just bumping the topic as I would like a few morevotes and opinions before we go to press with the string gauge.
Thanks guys!
-
I voted 11-50, but doing some research I noticed that Eric Johnson's sig sets are 10-50 and 11-52, so I reckon that something like 50 or heavier would be a good match.
-
I think either the .011 - .050 set or the .011 - .052 set make a lot of sense.
Actually D'Addario makes a .011,.014,.018,.030,.042,.052 set. It would be a great set for dropping down to D or so.
-
D'Addario EXL 120 Gauges 09-11-16-24-32-42 on the eletrics at this time I have used 11's but I'm pretty much still a NooB on guitar and i like to be able to bend with out meat slicing my finger tips .
-
Thanks for all your input guys
We took notice and have decided to make them 11-50
The gauges go 11,14,18p,28,38,50
This will allow a better tension for players to play drop D tuning
Here is the revised packaging:

the sneak peak of the artwork doesn't work for me for some reason... EDIT: the one above this post does (looks nice!), but the one on the first page of this thread in the original post doesn't.
Didn't vote, I've never tried 11's... I've recently been experimenting with drop d, and that's scary and out there enough for me, I think.

heh, used to be the other way round for me: Drop D = gooood
standard = baaaad
until i found i sucked at Drop D songwriting and my powerchord technique had almost faded..... so i changed back to standard. DOWN 3 SEMITONES!!! my songwriting has never been this good.
anyway, nice strings Feline, any chance of a heavy gauge in future? i might buy some 10-46s for my SG....... plus my Dad too might be interested in an experiment or 3 :)

I would have voted Earnie Ball Beefy Slinky (11 - 54), but it's not on the list
I only use 11s when I tune down (C#, F#, B, E , G#, C#).
