Title: Custom Made Guitar - Choosing Pick Ups
Post by: Jimi Halen Benitz on February 17, 2007, 03:45:20 PM
Hello, I'm new here.

I would like to know which pick ups set to use for:

 Bridge:
Low Gain - More Vintage as possibles
Crunch - Eddie Van Halen (harmonics, chords...)
High Gain - fat power chords

 Middle: I've got it already.

 Neck:
Low Gain - SRV (specially this guy's sound)
  Medium Gain - Hendrix
High Gain - as Malmsteen's as possible

All in the same guitar. Ah, and what wood should I use: Mahogany, Ash or Alder?

 Thank you very much.

First off, the woods. You dont seem to need much in teh way of super-thick or low end, so I think maple neck alder body will give you the mainly bright but full bodied sounds you want with enough chunk for fat power chords

Pickup wise, are we talking SSS or HSS or HSH here, or have you not decided?

If you havent decide yet, I'd recommend HSS for what you want.

H: Mule, crawler, VHII
S1 - You have
S2- Trilogy

Yes, I choosed HSS.

The Trilogy have that Vintage "quack" "twang" glassy sound, don't know how you call it , like SRV timbre?

They do to a dregree, yes, but if you want that as a major part of your tone then I'd go for an Irish Tour
