Title: camo covers
Post by: Die_ter on February 18, 2007, 03:04:26 AM
Does anyone own any BN humbuckers with the camo cover? When looking at the gallery (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=584), I noticed this finish' colours changed over time. The yellowish shades seem to have grown less pronounced, and silver and even green shades have turned up. Maybe it's just the pics? I'm wondering if this finish will fit my guitar  well (koa oiled finish + gold hardware). If you've got a pic of a recently ordered camo cover, please share it. Thanks in advance!

IMO, no - if you've got a guitar with gorgeous koa wood & gold hardware why on earth would you want to put camo covers in it?!?

Why not gold covered, or open black, or zebra, or cream or just about anything other than camo?

Sorry can't help with a pic, haven't got any camo BKPs - don't think they'd look right in any of my guitars... :)

i have a camo set in a Zakk Wylde Les Paul, i wouldn't have gone for them myself but the previous owner installed them, and i must admit they look pretty good!  the thing is, the camo finish wears off.  on the bridge pickup, under the low E, it's now basically a nickel finish.  i don't mind, but i can see this annoying some people.  maybe it's possible to put a sealant or something on to prevent this?

i have the pup for over 6 months in the guitar now and there is no sign of any wearing on the pup.

i got it in a crackle finish charvel (which is going to get repainted sometimes soon) it looks out of place, but it's cool :D

Thanks all for your replies! I thought the golden shine to the camo covers would match with the golden hardware of my guitar. A plain golden cover would be too much imo + I'd hate it of the gold wears off. The same applies to a worn off camo cover though. I'm not sure I'd like the nickle shining through with gold hardware. I'm beginning to lean towards simple open black PUs. This is the guitar I'm talking about...maybe the pics can inspire some of you guys to come up with a brilliant idea  :D

I'm not sure about my other guitar either... I'm thinking open black PUs would be best in this case..as the guitar itself is already quite decorated.

The stock PUs on my guitars somehow seem to be connected to the PU rings. Does this mean I need to get new PU rings or can the old ones be reused? The PUs come out as one block. Mind you I'm not quite the technician

I think Camo would look great in that guitar.
