Title: Decent wireless guitar system - any recommendations?
Post by: Twinfan on February 18, 2007, 10:38:30 PM
I've been looking at the AKG "bug" type ones as they look pretty neat.  Anyone tried one or recommend anything else?

Cheers!

The other guitarist in my band used to have a Shure system of some kind and seemed to like it. The only trouble was, when he got his Gibson LP Studio, because of the pickups being quite hot (I think..) it clipped the input and he couldnt get it to stop clipping for some reason..

Cheers Tom.  I've done some more digging and this looks pretty good:

Samson Airline 77 (http://www.soundtech.co.uk/samson/news/airline77guitaristchoice?PHPSESSID=4e5c05489e66e16cf5c785c60e)

I'll dig out the Guitarist review at home later.

I owned a bug...never could get it where it wouldnt pop ocassionally-seemed to be a victim of 60 cycle hum style noise!!worked much better with electric than acoustic-I live in a noisy environment, but I sold it because an instrument cord was more dependable

sorry for delay-stomach virus..eeeeekk
-yes..the akg-I would have loved it had it not been for the occasional pop-also, I was wary of putting the velcro anchor on my guitar, so the bug kind of swung around while I played...thought this may be the cause of my problem, but it wasn't-all in all..great idea, but needs so tweaking in my book-maybe uhf would avoid the interference

Glad you made it back to your PC  ;)

Cheers for the info.  I'm swaying towards the Samson Airline but the "swinging bug" thing sounds like it might be a problem...

I've owned a samson airline, an akg bug and a sennhieser freeport. The only one i would even consider gigging with is the Sennhieser.

But I have to say, now I use planet waves leads. Without spending A Lot of money, I don't think you can get a wireless system that isn't seriously tone robbing.

I have used a wireless system once and I'd agree with nfe that they can suck tone-at least the one I used did. T'was nice strolling like Alan a Dale though.
