Sounds like you've bought a 1996 SG Special.  I hope you didn't pay Custom money  :(

Possibly.  They sell for around £450 here in the UK, and in the US they would be around $450.

i've NEVER heard of a gibson going for less than 850$... $400's is rediculously low.  Gibsons also dont really lose value after being used, so i'd say 975 is a decent price if its in good condition.

Well they should - New Gibsons are mostly awful.

I know what you mean man, but Gibson is a big name, and n00bs raise the price because they'll dish out anything just to play what their favorite emo band plays.

That being said, older Gibsons can be lovely. Played a 93 SG Standard of my mate's today - Very nice guitar.

Its a worn brown Gibson Special i tink... So its not a custom. R new Gibson guitar really bad. Do da tone sucks or it juz because of poor cosmetic quality control.

There was  a post a while back that discussed this - I was looking for opinions on them - as it happens I have just brought one back from the USA - good points - nice feel and great sound - bad points - the fingerboard was really dry and looked like they had not even dusted it off after sanding, frets could do with the edges finishing and the action is a bit on the high side.

Discussion is here

a custom should generally have three HB pickups.

http://www.everythingsg.com/forum <this crowd should be able to tell you exactly what model it is - in some cases to the exact day it was made, and whether it was built before or after lunch  :P

Yep, that's an SG Special.  Nothing custom about it I'm afraid.

That's a special for shure. A Custom should at least have neck binding, block/trapeze inlays and covered pickups (usualy three of them, I think).

Nice natural colour, though.
